Luke Shaw shows true colours as Man United man fails to celebrate win with England team-mates

Manchester United's Luke Shaw showed impressive sportsmanship by deciding not to participate in his team's celebration after their win in the penalty shoot-out against Switzerland.

The player who came on as a substitute in the second half quickly went over to the Swiss players to shake their hands after his team's exciting win. Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all scored their penalties, with Jordan Pickford saving Manuel Akanji's first attempt for Switzerland.

When Alexander-Arnold led the charge towards the Three Lions fans, most of the England squad quickly followed suit. However, Shaw chose to show his sportsmanship by comforting Granit Xhaka and his fellow Swiss players. It was clear that the Swiss team was feeling emotional, with tears streaming down their faces as they were eliminated from the competition.

Shaw was noticeable as the sole player who decided not to celebrate. Instead, he opted to shake hands with as many Swiss players as he could. The ex-Southampton player entered the match in the 78th minute, right after Breel Embolo scored a goal for Switzerland at the far post, according to the Express.

But the advantage didn't last long as Saka quickly scored a goal from outside the box to even the score, sending the game into extra time. Harry Kane, who was the team captain, had to leave the field during extra time after falling into the advertising hoardings and injuring his thigh.

Taking over in place of the injured player, Toney displayed incredible self-assurance, calmly scoring a penalty without taking his eyes off the goal as he approached the ball. The player from Brentford found the back of the net shortly before Alexander-Arnold secured the win with the last shot of the game.

Explaining the intensity of the situation in a interview after the game, the Liverpool player talked about how ready he was for the moment. He said, "We have been training for this. When the coach picked me to take a penalty, I was excited and confident because I had been practicing. I just had to focus on getting it right. All five of our penalties were fantastic."

Amazing, these are the objectives we have established. The challenging opponent fell behind, but the team displayed a great deal of determination, faith, passion, and courage. We were aware that it would be a close match. We are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve victory - that is our main focus.
