Luke Shaw is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of 2024 after feeling “crushed” by yet another injury setback.

The England left-back, who hasn't played a match for Manchester United since February, is expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to a new muscle injury.

This marks Shaw's third time away from starting a match for United since he last played, having missed the last three months of the previous season due to a hamstring issue and the first three months of the current season because of a calf injury. After that, he had three appearances as a substitute with new coach Ruben Amorim before experiencing another setback.

Shaw shared on Instagram, "It's really painful for me to put this into words because I believed I had overcome my recent difficulties and was moving in a positive direction. Sadly, I've encountered a minor setback."

"I've faced many challenges over the years, but this has certainly been the hardest phase for me. I feel utterly crushed, and it's incredibly difficult to accept what’s happening right now."

The 29-year-old feels that his ongoing injury issues are challenging the patience of Manchester United supporters. He expressed his own frustration, promising to come back in improved condition.

He mentioned, "I realize that there will be some individuals who feel frustrated, upset, and let down, and I completely get that. Right now, no one is sensing that more intensely than I am."

"I assure you that I will do my utmost to return as quickly as possible and contribute to the team's goals for this season."

Shaw has been on the field for just 98 minutes with United over the past nine months, yet he secured a spot on England's Euro 2024 team. He came off the bench twice and played from the start in the final match against Spain.

He was in line to start for United against Arsenal on Wednesday because Lisandro Martinez is serving a suspension. However, he will now be absent for the match at the Emirates Stadium as well as the Manchester derby and several other games.
