Luka Modric achieved a new record as the oldest player to score a goal in the European Championships during Croatia's match against Italy at the Leipzig Stadium. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the 54th minute of the game, Modric took a penalty kick that was stopped by Gianluigi Donnarumma. Shortly after, Modric was able to score when a pass was sent into the penalty area for Ante Budimir. Donnarumma saved Budimir's first shot, but Modric was there to capitalize on the rebound.

Modric was in the right place at the right time and quickly scored by shooting the ball into the top of the goal from close range.

Luka Modric, who is 38 years and 289 days old, has made history by becoming the oldest player to score in the European Championships. He has surpassed Poland's Ivica Vastic in this impressive achievement.

Modric played his 178th game for Croatia in 2006. Since then, he has scored 26 goals and helped with 29 assists.

This will be his fifth and potentially last European Championship, and he will aim to finish his career on a positive note. He previously guided the Croatian national team to a second-place finish in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and a third-place finish in the 2022 edition.
