Lucy Letby loses attempt to appeal against baby murder convictions
Lucy Letby, who used to work as a nurse in the neonatal department, has been refused the opportunity to challenge her convictions for the murder of infants.
Last year, Letby was convicted of killing seven babies and trying to murder six others in 2015 and 2016 at the Countess of Chester hospital in the northwest region of England.
She requested that three experienced judges permit her to contest her verdicts at the courtroom of appeal situated in London.
Letby presented four reasons for appeal, all of which claimed that the judge during the Manchester crown court trial unfairly denied applications made by Letby.
Nonetheless, on Friday, Dame Victoria Sharp and Lord Justice Holroyde rejected her request for authorization.
The King's Bench Division's president, Sharp, stated that after considering the application, the court has chosen to deny permission to appeal on every basis and reject all linked requests.
A complete legal decision will be given in the future and any necessary requests can be resolved at that point.
The coverage of the appeal is restricted due to certain limitations.
Letby was sentenced to life imprisonment 14 times due to committing numerous crimes. However, she needs to have another trial for attempting murder, which will happen at Manchester Crown Court in the upcoming month.
