Lucy Letby

The blog post comes from a team consisting of Ewan Gawne, Kara O'Neill, and members of the PA Media who have written for BBC News regarding events in Liverpool.

Lucy Letby, a person who killed children repeatedly, has been prevented from applying to have her sentences for murdering and attempting to murder newborns under her supervision as a neonatal nurse reviewed.

In August 2023, Letby from Hereford was found guilty of killing seven infants and attempting to murder six more at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2015 and 2016.

Lady Victoria Sharp, in the company of Lord Justice Holroyde, stated that they had rejected Letby's appeal request during a brief hearing in the Court of Appeal.

The judges didn't give the complete explanation behind their ruling, and Letby's effort to appeal couldn't be revealed due to legal restrictions.

According to Dame Victoria, after listening to the request, it has been concluded that the appeal on all grounds and any associated applications will be declined.

A complete decision will be given at the appropriate time.

Letby requested to appeal her convictions shortly after the trial concluded in August.

She failed the initial phase of the procedure, where a solo judge assessed her points in written form.

Lawyers representing the former nurse recently conducted a hearing that took two and a half days. During the hearing, they made fresh attempts to appeal to a panel comprising of three judges.

Since the judges have turned down the opportunity to authorize the challenge, this decision indicates that the appeal process for Letby has come to a close.

According to Dame Victoria's previous statement, it can be stated that her appeal was based on four arguments that revolved around the denial of her legal requests by the judge during her trial.

The woman who is 34 years old is going to be tried again at Manchester Crown Court in June for trying to kill a baby girl named Child K in February 2016.
