Lucy Bronze joins Chelsea!

Lucy Bronze

Chelsea is thrilled to confirm the acquisition of Lucy Bronze, an experienced defender who will be joining the team after spending two seasons at FC Barcelona.

A frequent champion, Bronze has officially signed a two-year deal with the team and has a lot of expertise from winning many times in local, European, and global competitions.

Having won three Women's Super League titles and five UEFA Women's Champions League trophies, the 32-year-old has received numerous awards and has played in over 400 senior matches throughout her career, making her resume shine brightly.

When Chelsea brought me back to England, Bronze expressed: "It still feels a bit like a dream to be a Chelsea player. I have known and followed this club for a long time. I am thrilled to be back in England. My family is also excited to watch more of my games."

I am thrilled to be in London, eager to discover all that the city has to offer and to be a part of a club that has a reputation for winning numerous trophies.

Manager Paul Green said that Lucy will bring a lot of leadership to the team. She's a player who knows how to win and can play in different defensive positions. With her experience and winning mindset, she will be a great addition to the squad.

After achieving success in all of England's top soccer leagues with Sunderland, Liverpool, Everton, and Manchester City, Bronze joined Lyon in 2017. During her time in France, she consistently won both the domestic league and the UEFA Women's Champions League in each of the three seasons she played for Lyon.

She went back to play for Manchester City for a second time in 2020 before moving on to Barcelona in the summer of 2022. While in Spain, she won seven more trophies, including two additional UEFA Women's Champions League titles.

In addition to achieving success with her team, Bronze has also received recognition for her individual skills. She was the second-place finisher for the Ballon d'Or in 2019 and won the 2020 FIFA Best Women's Player of the Year award. She has also been selected for the FIFPRO Women's World XI multiple times.

On the global stage, Bronze has been one of England's standout and reliable players ever since she first played on the senior team in 2013. She played a crucial role in the Lionesses team that made history by winning the European Championship in 2022.

During the previous summer, Bronze played a key role in England's success at the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The team reached the finals but unfortunately came in second place, losing to Spain.

All of us at Chelsea are very excited about Lucy joining the club, and we can't wait to see her wearing the Chelsea blue in the upcoming season!
