Lorraine Kelly has given a tough reply to a popular social media profile that documents her times of being away from her television program.
For decades, the Scottish presenter has been a consistent presence on morning television. She has appeared on various shows including Good Morning Britain, GMTV, and her own program, Lorraine, which has been on air since 2010.
Over the past few months, Kelly, who is 64 years old, has been taking more frequent breaks from her daily presenting duties. As a result, a satirical account on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) called @LorraineKWatch has been keeping track of her absences, providing a concise tally of how many times she has actually appeared on her show.
The profile often becomes a hit, as individuals on social media find it entertaining how much monitoring the host is subjected to.
Kelly was interviewed on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour last Friday (16 February) and was questioned about her opinion on the report.
At first, the person speaking made a joke saying that the situation was very funny. However, she later acknowledged that she has been taking frequent breaks from work in order to care for her sick, elderly mother.
"She stated that it was okay and that she wasn't bothered or concerned. Maybe she would have been bothered previously, but currently, she isn't. It's completely alright," she commented about the issue. She went on to say, "In all honesty, it's not appropriate to make comments about things when you aren't aware of someone's personal life."
"I have to take several Fridays off because my mother is not doing very well."
During weekdays, Kelly divides her time between her residence in Buckinghamshire and her weekend stay at her mother's place in East Kilbride, Scotland.
"I am currently able to go back to Scotland and spend more quality time with my loved one, offering more assistance than I have been able to. This is presently occurring, but the situation is likely to evolve," she expressed to host Anita Rani.

Kelly mentioned that she had been putting in full-time hours for the past 40 years. Therefore, she has decided to take a short break from her routine.
Lorraine Kelly, who hosts a TV show, has stated that Phillip Schofield has gone through a difficult period since he revealed his extramarital relationship with a younger male co-worker, but she believes that he will recover from it.
Kelly wrote a post on X last month mentioning that she couldn't go to a show and expressed her gratitude to Christine Lampard for covering as a temporary host.
"Good morning and a big thank you to the fantastic @clbleakley who has kindly covered for me on Fridays so that I can return home," she began her statement. "I'm delighted to see that my mother is progressing well, and I appreciate all of your kind remarks."
Kelly's mother, Anne, got admitted to the hospital in July. Kelly didn't share many specific details regarding her mother's condition then, but Anne was already diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, which is a kidney disorder, in the earlier months of the same year.
Kelly was recently revealed to be the Owl on the latest season of The Masked Singer. Host Joel Dommett hailed her unmasking as one of the finest moments in the program's history.
