Police carry out controlled explosion at London Euston station
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that they executed a controlled detonation of a suspicious package at Euston railway station.
Barricades were set up around the main train station in north London during lunchtime on Saturday, and travelers who were supposed to use the station were evacuated.
The Met shared in a message on X: "We've seen the online reports regarding an event near Euston Station."
Police have set up barriers as a safety measure while they look into a suspicious package.
The police later announced, "Specialist officers have performed a controlled explosion, and the security barriers have now been removed. We appreciate your understanding."
The event occurred just a day after two dubious packages were discovered at Gatwick Airport and the US embassy.
The Metropolitan Police stated that they are not considering the incidents to be connected.
A section of the south terminal at the airport in Sussex was cleared out after a potentially dangerous package was discovered. The area remained shut down for several hours while the bomb disposal team took steps to secure it.
Two individuals who had been taken into custody by the police were set free and permitted to carry on with their travels once the terminal reopened.
Certain flights were either canceled or delayed, and travelers were advised to reach out to their airlines for the latest information or to make new bookings if needed.
On Friday, police detonated a suspicious package that had been left near the US embassy in South London.
The Met later announced that the object in question was a fake device and that they were looking into it.
A representative for the police stated, "We can verify that the 'loud noise' heard in the area recently was a deliberate explosion conducted by our officers."
The US embassy posted on X, stating: "Local officials are looking into a questionable package outside the US embassy in London. Metropolitan police are on the scene and have temporarily shut down Ponton Road as a safety precaution. We will share more information as it becomes available."
