Twist of fate means Liverpool loanee is OUSTED by club legend's son
A sudden turn of events leads to Liverpool's loaned player being removed by the son of a club legend.
It was bound to be a charming twist of fate when young Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay signed with Wigan Athletic, where they also have the son of legend Jamie Carragher, who was a right-back himself.
However, it was surprising that Carragher’s son, James, would actually steal playing time from the Scottish player who had been loaned out to gain the experience and growth that comes with game action.
That’s precisely what occurred. James Carragher participated in the entire match for Wigan as they finished in a 0-0 tie against Exeter yesterday, and Calvin Ramsay wasn’t included in the squad at all. The son of the football icon made two interceptions, helping Wigan achieve their third consecutive clean sheet with Carragher contributing in some way.

Carragher was on the field for the second half of Wigan's recent goalless match against Stevenage, stepping in for Liverpool's loan player Luke Chambers. Meanwhile, Calvin Ramsay was once again absent from the team lineup. In the two matches prior, which ended with the same 0-0 scoreline against Lincoln and a 4-0 victory over Bristol Rovers, Carragher played for 80 minutes in both games, with Ramsay coming on to take his place in the last 10 minutes each time.
Supporters took to Twitter to shower compliments on Jamie's son. One user, @CentralWigan, jokingly remarked that he "shoots just like his father, but that's understandable."
If James Carragher doesn't take home the Player of the Month award, we might as well give up on the whole idea. He was incredible on the field today, easily the standout performer. #wafc

While this is great news for the Liverpool legend and his family, it raises concerns for Calvin Ramsay. After joining from Aberdeen in 2022, the Scottish player has been loaned out to both Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers, but he hasn't seen much success—especially since he was recovering from a knee injury during his time at Preston. If he's losing support at Wigan, it could seriously hinder his growth as a player.
The right-back was signed with a strong focus on his potential, skills, and future prospects. For his own benefit, splitting playing time with Carragher would make the situation much more favorable.
