Liverpool XI vs Southampton: Predicted lineup and confirmed team news
Liverpool received a significant boost with their captain Virgil van Dijk returning to fitness ahead of the match against Southampton.
Van Dijk came back home early from playing for the Netherlands, but he is ready to join the team for the match at St Mary's.
Trent Alexander-Arnold remains sidelined due to a hamstring issue, while Harvey Elliott is close to making a comeback after being out for over two months with a foot injury.
Alisson has started light training again, but he isn't quite ready to play yet, so Caoimhin Kelleher will remain the goalkeeper.
Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa remain unable to play.
"Virgil is doing well," Slot stated on Friday. "Trent hasn't joined us for training yet, but he's making progress, so we anticipate having him back with us shortly."

Alisson has returned to training with the goalkeeper coach. While he's not yet practicing with the rest of the team, that should happen soon. We'll have to see how he measures up in terms of match fitness after that. He's improving steadily, but he won't be ready to play this Sunday.
"Jota is still separated from the team, just like Federico, who might rejoin the session for one activity today."
"They're all anticipated to return sometime soon, likely within the next few weeks, but the final stage of recovery is usually the toughest. Let's just wait and observe what happens."
Regarding Elliott, Slot mentioned, "It's great to see Harvey back in training with us. He's missed several weeks, but he's finally on the field with the team again."
"However, that's not the same as being at your best right away. We need to give him some time to get back to that level, but I feel really lucky that he's returned, especially with the number of games we have scheduled in the next couple of months."
Expected Liverpool Starting Lineup: Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Diaz, Nunez.
Players who are injured include Jota, Alisson, Chiesa, and Alexander-Arnold.
