Liverpool's Under-19 team had to stop their match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday because one of their players was reportedly targeted with racist remarks.

The young Liverpool team was facing Frankfurt in Schwabish Hall, Germany during a youth soccer tournament when the event occurred.

As reported by German newspaper Bild, a player from Frankfurt is accused of using a racist comment to insult an opponent, which led to the Liverpool team leaving the field and refusing to play on.

When the event occurred near the end of the game, everyone thought the score was 1-1, but it was revealed later on that the game had actually been called off, resulting in Frankfurt being awarded a 3-0 victory.

After the game, Frankfurt's sports director Timmo Hardung talked to reporters and said that the player accused of using racist language was actually misunderstood and did not say anything racist.

He explained that his teammate had used the term 'digga', which is a German slang word for 'bro' or 'dude'.

"Our whole NLZ [Youth Performance Centre] is similar to Eintracht Frankfurt, diverse and we have specific values that we follow and strive for," Hardung explained.

Discrimination is not welcome here, but we do not take accusations of racism lightly.

After discussing with our player, he admitted to using the term "digga" during a typical game, a term commonly used in youth slang. We are confident that his statement is accurate.

We believe that racism is not the issue at hand, but rather a matter of language. We are confident that we have resolved any misunderstandings with the players involved and the staff at Liverpool FC.

Currently, Liverpool has not made any statements regarding the issue.

This incident highlights the ongoing problem of racism in football, especially following a video of Enzo Fernandez and his teammates singing a discriminatory chant after Argentina's Copa America win.
