Liverpool injury update: Alexander-Arnold and Jota latest return dates

Liverpool heads into the international break facing a new injury concern.

Although Alisson Becker and Harvey Elliott are getting closer to being back on the field after the international break, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa will need a few more weeks before they can play again.

Now, Arne Slot will be anxious about Trent Alexander-Arnold's health after the right-back had to leave the match against Aston Villa.

Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to have sustained a possible hamstring injury.

Alexander-Arnold played for under 30 minutes in the match against Aston Villa on Saturday night. It wasn't immediately clear what kind of injury he sustained, but it seemed that he was holding his hamstring.

After being treated on the field for several minutes, it was determined that Alexander-Arnold could not continue playing, so Conor Bradley took his place.

"It's tough to determine how serious it is," Slot commented following the match. "Anytime a player has to leave the field in the first half, it's a concerning situation. While it's not encouraging, it's hard to provide specifics right after the game."

Alexander-Arnold has been included in Lee Carsley's England team for the upcoming Nations League matches, but he is now expected to pull out. Slot mentioned, “It would surprise me if he takes the field for the England national team.”

Expected return date: Not yet determined

Jota is still out due to a stomach injury he sustained in the match against Chelsea last month. There were initial hopes that he would be ready to play right after the international break, but now it's been pushed back, and he might not be back until late November or even December.

"We anticipate his return in the initial weeks following the international break. In the Netherlands, we tend to keep injury details private, so I'm not sure how things work here. Nonetheless, as mentioned, he should be back within one or two weeks after the international break."

Expected return date: Manchester City at home on December 1, 2024.

Since joining Liverpool during the summer, Federico Chiesa has had a tough time, hampered by injuries and difficulties that have limited him to only 77 minutes of playing time.

In late October, Slot commented on Chiesa, stating, "There are times when he joins us for practice for a few days before getting sidelined by an injury again."

"I prefer not to set any specific timelines, whether it's days or weeks, because it's important to focus on getting him in the best condition possible. I don't want to add any stress by suggesting deadlines."

New update from last week: “Chiesa won't return until after the international break, which is just a week away. We're optimistic that he can start training again during the break and rejoin the team afterwards.”

Possible return date: Late November to early December.

Federico Chiesa has had a challenging beginning to his time at Liverpool.

Harvey Elliott has appeared on the field just once this season due to a broken foot he sustained while representing the England U21 team in September.

The 21-year-old was expecting to come back in October, but now it looks like they won't return until after the international break in November.

Expected return date: Southampton (a) on November 24, 2024.

"He's making good progress," Slot mentioned in October. "As we anticipated, but it's not a quick recovery, which makes it hard to assess. The best time to evaluate an injury is once the recovery process is complete, during that rehabilitation phase."

"He hasn't returned yet. I can't specify when he'll be back, but don't anticipate seeing him until after the international break."

Possible return date: Southampton (a) on November 24, 2024
