Mohamed Salah's stunning goal helped Liverpool secure a thrilling 2-1 comeback win against Brighton on Saturday. This victory pushed Arne Slot's team two points ahead at the top of the Premier League standings.

Brighton made a strong start at Anfield, where they have performed well lately. They took the lead in the 14th minute thanks to an impressive strike from Turkey international Ferdi Kadioglu, who sent the ball into the far corner of the net.

In the first half, Liverpool had difficulty generating any significant chances. However, they bounced back with great energy after halftime, equalizing in the 69th minute with a goal from Cody Gakpo. Just three minutes later, Salah secured the lead for the team.

As both of their main competitors for the title, Arsenal and Manchester City, suffered defeats, Liverpool seized the opportunity to rise to the top of the table, moving ahead of the champions. They now lead Nottingham Forest by six points in third place and are seven points ahead of Arsenal.

"I was hoping we would get a goal, but since we didn't, I decided to make some changes," Slot explained. "Both Curtis Jones and Luis Díaz made a big impact when they came on."

The second goal was a classic Mo Salah moment. It won't be the first or last time he finds the net from that spot. Today, we encountered a similar level of skill and strategy in football, and each time we had to rally back to secure a positive outcome. That’s what truly makes my day.

In recent years, Brighton has emerged as a tough opponent for Liverpool in the Premier League. Ahead of Saturday's match, Slot's team had secured victory in two out of their last eight encounters.

Surpassing expectations once more this season, Brighton started strong at Anfield, confidently taking control of the initial moments of the match.

A fantastic solo effort and shot from Darwin Núñez got the home fans on their feet, but Kadioglu's very first goal in the Premier League quieted the iconic Kop end. It was an impressive goal from a player who typically plays as a left-back.

Caoimhín Kelleher made an impressive save in the heavily tested Liverpool goal, preventing Georginio Rutter from increasing Brighton's lead in the first half. Meanwhile, the home team struggled to connect more than a couple of passes.

Liverpool showed a significant improvement in the second half, with Virgil van Dijk and Salah missing crucial chances to equalize early on.

Brighton struggled to handle the continuous onslaught from Liverpool. The moment came when Gakpo delivered a cross that went untouched by anyone and found its way into the goal, shattering Brighton's defense.

The goal that clinched the victory and almost made the roof of Anfield explode with excitement is the kind of shot Liverpool fans are familiar with. Salah skillfully dribbled inwards onto his left foot and beautifully curled the ball into the net.

The Egyptian player has now secured the eighth spot on the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer list, and his contributions continue to be vital for Liverpool's pursuit of the championship.

"Today presented a great opportunity," said Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler. "Had we managed to score a second goal, or possibly even a third or fourth in the first half, the outcome would have been entirely different."

"Additionally, they possess exceptional talent. They managed to score unexpectedly from a cross and also found the net with a long-range shot. This league showcases players of the highest caliber."
