Lincoln man charged with disorder after Liverpool protests

Liverpool

A person from Lincoln is facing charges along with three other individuals in relation to a disturbance that occurred in Liverpool city center over the weekend.

Lloyd Killner, aged 35, a resident of Burton Road, was arrested by Merseyside Police and charged with violent disorder.

On Saturday 3 August, approximately 1,500 individuals who separated from two different demonstrations found themselves in a confrontation at the Pier Head in the city.

Mr Killner has been taken into custody and will have to go to court in Liverpool at 09.45 BST today.

Three additional men facing charges are Declan Geiran, age 29 from Liverpool, who is accused of setting fire to a police vehicle and participating in violent behavior; Jimmy Bailey, age 45 from Ellesmere Port, and Liam James Riley, age 41 from Kirkdale, both charged with engaging in violent disorder.

Merseyside Police reported that a group was seen aggressively approaching and using foul language towards police officers on Stanley Street, objects were thrown at police on Paradise Street, and an attempt was made to set a police van on fire on William Brown Street.

The police reported that two officers were hurt and certain nearby businesses were vandalized and robbed.

During a conversation on Saturday, Jenny Sims, who holds the position of Assistant Chief Constable, expressed her disapproval of the behavior witnessed during the disorder.

She explained that what was supposed to be a nice day on the historic waterfront for everyone to enjoy ended up being a chaotic and violent afternoon.

We've been told that families had to flee the area, and some even brought their kids to see the Disney Princess cruise ship parked nearby.

She said that her staff had risked their lives to keep the community safe and she was very proud of how courageous, strong, and professional they have been.
