Bobby Clark nets winner in 1st game back – as 3 return but new injury fear emerges
Bobby Clark had an exceptional afternoon as he scored the decisive goal in the last minute of his first match after returning. His Liverpool U21s team emerged victorious with a score of 2-1 against Chelsea.
Liverpool Beats Chelsea U21s 2-1
It's the 17th of December 2023 and I'm here at the AXA Training Centre for PL2.
Targets achieved: Glatzel scored at 49 minutes, Williams scored at 54 minutes, and Clark scored at 90 minutes.
Clark has been absent from Liverpool's games for two and a half months due to an injury he sustained at the beginning of October. The injury has caused him significant distress.
On Sunday, a young and adaptable player substituted to score the decisive goal against Chelsea. Furthermore, during that day, Paul Glatzel and Oakley Cannonier made their return.
The young Reds kickstarted the game with a goal from Glatzel, who hadn't played in a month-and-a-half. It was also his fourth goal out of eight games this season.
Regrettably for Liverpool, this event occurred following apprehensiveness over the condition of Ben Doak. He was removed from the game in the 28th minute due to concerns of a possible fresh injury.
Chelsea, who spent a total of £17.1 million signing Deivid Washington for their attack, managed to equalize against Liverpool just five minutes after Glatzel's goal, thanks to Dylan Williams who brought the scores level once again.
Throughout the game, there was a fair balance between the teams. In the second half, Barry Lewtas made some changes to the squad by replacing Harvey Blair with Cannonier and substituting Tom Hill with Clark.
As the game seemed to be heading towards a 1-1 draw, Clark stepped in and scored a goal from Spearing's pass in the later part of the match, securing a 2-1 win.
After a period of additional time filled with tension that lasted for nine minutes, Liverpool successfully managed to secure a victory.
The academy has celebrated a win just before a crucial week as they gear up for their final two games of 2023. On Tuesday, the U18s will be heading to Fleetwood for the FA Youth Cup, followed by the U21s hosting Feyenoord in the PL International Cup on Friday.
Following that, there will be a pause for the holiday season, but Clark is anticipating the opportunity to play on the starting team during that period.
It is yet to be determined if the Carabao Cup quarter-final match against West Ham on Wednesday night will be too early.
The Liverpool U21s team consisted of Pitaluga as the goalkeeper and Miles, Pinnington, Chambers, and Scanlon as the defenders. The midfielders were Pilling and Hill, although Clark came on in the 77th minute. Doak started but was later substituted for Spearing in the 28th minute. Glatzel and Blair were the forwards, with Cannonier replacing Blair in the 66th minute. Musialowski was also part of the team.
