Death occurred in a cheese-related listeria outbreak.

Listeriosis

There has been a connection between Listeria and certain supplies of the creamy cheese called Baronet.

A death has occurred due to a spread of listeria which was linked to certain batches of Baronet soft cheese.

The FSA has cautioned individuals against consuming the cheese due to abnormally elevated amounts of bacteria.

The Baronet's status as the source of the bacteria has not been officially confirmed by the FSA, however, it was discovered that a similar type of bacteria was present in the cheese.

The cheese-making company Old Room Cheese Room, based out of Wiltshire, announced that it was collaborating with the FSA in a close manner.

The FSA reported that the outbreak has caused one fatality and has been associated with three occurrences of Listeria.

The Old Cheese Room has recalled various groups of Baronet, Baby Baronet, and Mini Baronet soft cheeses due to safety concerns.

The organization is still examining if the individual who passed away had consumed Baronet cheese.

There were instances recorded in southern parts of England and London, however, the item is dispersed throughout the entire country.

such as meningitis and septicemia. Therefore, it is important to take necessary precautions to prevent its spread. Rephrased: Listeria microorganisms may result in stomach discomfort, but it may also lead to severe issues like meningitis and septicemia. Consequently, it's crucial to take appropriate measures to avoid its transmission.

According to Tina Potter, who is in charge of incidents at the FSA, the outbreak was caused by a strain of listeria monocytogenes that closely resembles the one found in Baronet cheese. This same strain was detected in all three cases related to the outbreak.

Nonetheless, it is not an absolute assurance that every person implicated in the epidemic acquired listeriosis from consuming Baronet cheese.

Even though cheese products have been identified as a potential source of listeria, efforts are still underway to determine the root cause of the outbreak.

According to the agency, the type of infection that has widely spread has also been identified in certain food items and instances where the cheese has been vended, furnished, and dispensed from.

Bacteria are capable of inducing listeriosis, which is a rare infection ordinarily resolving on its own. Yet, this infection can also result in severe complications like the inflammation of the membranes that wrap around the brain and spinal cord.

The indications might resemble those of the flu and consist of a high body temperature, muscle soreness or distress, shivers, sensation of vomiting, and loose bowels.

According to The Old Cheese Room, the outbreak has not impacted any of their other cheese varieties.

In a statement, they declared that they, as a conscientious cheese producer, perform frequent cleansing, sterilization, and swab analyses of their areas for making and aging the cheese.

After discovering that a batch of Baronet cheese contained a small amount of listeria monocytogenes, we have made a change to our testing process. We now have a positive release system in place, which involves testing each batch of cheese before we send it out. We carry out this testing on a monthly basis to ensure the safety and quality of our products.

This incident has not impacted any of our other types of cheese.

According to Ms Potter, individuals who are susceptible to harm should pay close attention to the instructions in the product recall notification, with emphasis on expectant mothers and senior citizens.

Richard Elson, who is in charge of handling incidents and managing responses at the UK Health Security Agency, stated that Listeriosis is not a commonly occurring infection and anyone who gets infected will most likely encounter mild symptoms such as stomach pain or loose stools, which will usually subside within a few days without requiring any treatment.

Individuals who have a compromised immune system, those who are pregnant, and those who are very young or old are at a higher chance of experiencing more serious symptoms.
