Liam Payne, the former member of One Direction, tragically passed away at 31 after a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
According to a statement given to CNN by the police, Payne passed away in a hotel located on Costa Rica Street in the Palermo area.
Payne, who was born on August 29, 1993, in Wolverhampton, England, gained recognition when he participated in the fifth season of The X Factor in 2008, where he performed in front of judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue, and Louis Walsh.
After the audition rounds, Cowell teamed up Payne with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik.
Following the release of their first album, Up All Night, in 2011, they rose to fame and became one of the most successful boy bands in history. However, they decided to take an indefinite break in 2016.
Payne has a son, who was born in 2017, with his ex-partner, Cheryl Cole, a former member of the band Girls Aloud.
Messages of support and admiration for Payne have swiftly come in from all corners of the music world.
Liam Payne Faces Legal Battle With Ex Over Claims
Liam Payne and his former partner, Maya Henry, were involved in a lawsuit when he passed away on Wednesday night.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, 23-year-old Henry sent a cease and desist letter to Payne earlier this week, claiming that he had been persistently reaching out to her and her family.
"Maya Henry sent a cease and desist letter to Liam Payne last week after new and troubling information came to light," her lawyers informed the Mail. "She has hired attorneys Marco Crawford and Daniel Cerna to act on her behalf. This is all she has to say about the situation for now."
Earlier this month, Henry also shared his thoughts in a TikTok video.
"Since we ended things, he keeps sending me messages and constantly calls me. He doesn't just use his own number; he reaches out from various different numbers, so I can never tell where the next message will come from," Henry explained in the video.
