Sir Lewis Hamilton, filled with emotion, took home his ninth British Grand Prix victory, beating out Red Bull's Max Verstappen and McLaren's Lando Norris. This win marked his first triumph since December 2021.

After a record-breaking pole position for three British drivers - George Russell, Sir Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris, the 2024 British Grand Prix took place with drivers and fans trying to avoid intermittent rain showers under gloomy skies at Silverstone during the race weekend.

George Russell, who started in pole position, lost the lead to Hamilton at the start of the race. The two Mercedes cars were in a fierce battle ahead of the McLaren cars as the rain began to fall.

The drivers switched to intermediate tires as the race progressed, but then the weather cleared up and Hamilton gained speed. He made a pit stop for slick tires one lap before Norris did, who had a slow pit stop, allowing Hamilton to move into the lead.

Russell had a tough Sunday when he had to leave the race early due to a problem with his water system.

Verstappen took second place from Norris and he couldn't get it back. Hamilton then went on to win his ninth Grand Prix and 104th race, setting a new record.

"I wanted to win this race for my team because it's my final one at the British Grand Prix," said Hamilton to Jenson Button post-race.

In the race, Oscar Piastri's McLaren finished in fourth place, followed by Carlos Sainz from Ferrari in fifth, and Nico Hulkenberg from Haas in sixth, which was quite impressive. Aston Martin had a more successful weekend with Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso finishing in seventh and eighth place. Alex Albon managed to secure two points for Williams by finishing in ninth place.

Charles Leclerc did not perform well in the race. He fell back in position after switching to intermediate tires early on and ended up finishing in 14th place.

The British Grand Prix marks the beginning of National Motorsport Week, which will take place from 11-21 July. This event is a celebration of all types of motorsport, from local races to professional competitions, happening throughout the UK.
