Kevin Sinfield, a famous rugby player, has expressed his sincere gratitude to all those who participated in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon and Half Marathon and to those who provided support for the event.
On Sunday, an occasion was organized to pay tribute to Mr. Sinfield's ex-colleague from the Leeds Rhino team, Rob Burrow. Unfortunately, Burrow received a diagnosis of motor neurone illness in 2019.
Around 14,000 individuals who fancy running, among them Mrs. Burrow, engaged in a series of events that aimed to make a positive impact.
After the event, Mr. Sinfield expressed his gratitude, stating that he could not thank people enough.
The competitions kicked off at 9 in the morning British Summer Time from AMT Headingley Stadium. The aim of these races was to collect money and support for different charitable organizations. These included the MND Association, which focuses on Motor Neurone Disease, and a Leeds Hospitals Charity drive that would put together the Rob Burrow Centre for MND.
Mr. Burrow greeted Mr. Sinfield at the end of the event. Mr. Sinfield has collected over £800,000 for MND and participated in the activity.
Mr. Sinfield shared with the MND Association after completing the 26.2-mile (42.2km) run that this event truly exemplifies the qualities of friendship, resilience, teamwork, and camaraderie.
I am incredibly grateful and indebted to the volunteers, individuals who contributed to making this event a success, and all of the hardworking runners. The event was made even more special by the support of those in attendance on the streets.
Jonathan Pryor, who is the deputy leader of Leeds City Council and has responsibilities for the economy, culture and education, expressed his gratitude towards the team who organised the race and the volunteers who participated. He mentioned that the efforts put by them were highly appreciated by the council.
The winner of the women's event was Melissah Gibson, and the men's event was won by Joe Sagar. Gibson was the first woman to complete the race and cross the finish line.
