It is confirmed that Bronny James and LeBron James will make history as the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA. They are also set to be teammates on the same team.
The Los Angeles Lakers picked 19-year-old Bronny James in the 2024 NBA draft on June 27th. He used to play for USC and was chosen as the 55th pick in the second round.
He is going to play on the court with his father very soon. His father has been talking about his wish to play basketball with his son for a long time.
Following the announcement, LeBron James took to his social media platforms to express his excitement and joy about the news.
"Family heritage!!!!" exclaimed the happy father in his social media post on June 27th. He posted pictures and videos of himself and Bronny James, including a old photograph.
At a media event on April 29th, LeBron James mentioned that he hasn't really been thinking about the idea of playing with Bronny James.
"Of course, I've considered it before. But ultimately, the child must follow their own desires," he shared during that moment.
Bronny James, the oldest son of the famous athlete, announced his decision to enter the draft in April. He participated in workouts with several NBA teams, such as the Phoenix Suns and the Lakers.
During a media event at the NBA combine, the guard was questioned about how his father would contribute to his chances of being selected in the draft.
"I believe that I have worked hard and will be selected in the draft based on who I am as a person, not just as a player," he stated.
Duane Ranki, who has inside information about the Suns for The Arizona Republic, called Bronny James "a player who has the skills to compete in the NBA" in an interview with TODAY.com. Ranki also forecasted that James would likely be selected in the second round of the draft.
Despite the teenager achieving a historic milestone by playing alongside his father, who is widely regarded as the greatest basketball player ever, his journey to the NBA was filled with challenges. Prior to making his debut for USC, he experienced a cardiac arrest in July 2023.
His heart condition, described by a spokesperson for the James family as significant in both anatomy and function since birth, was diagnosed at that time, as reported to NBC News.
Bronny James was given the green light to play and joined the college basketball team for the first time in December 2023. He participated in 25 games overall and accumulated a total of 121 points, as reported by USC.
In a recent interview with TODAY.com, Rankin discussed Bronny James' performance at the combine. Rankin mentioned that if there were no lasting effects from the combine, it indicates that he is prepared and ready in the eyes of a team.
He also accurately predicted that Bronny James would end up in Los Angeles with his dad.
