Officials have advised British citizens to exit Lebanon without delay, as the Government increases its presence in the area.

In the next few hours, about 700 British soldiers will be deployed to Cyprus as the government ramps up its emergency plans in response to the recent intensification of conflict between Israel and Lebanon.

Military units will receive assistance from Border Force and officials from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

The government is still warning people to avoid traveling to Lebanon due to the ongoing and worsening situation, which is leading to serious repercussions.

Recent developments over the past few hours and days have shown just how unpredictable this situation has become. Therefore, we strongly advise British citizens to depart immediately.

We strongly encourage everyone involved to de-escalate tensions to avoid any more tragic fatalities. Our government is making sure that all necessary measures are ready to assist British Nationals if the situation worsens. I would like to express my appreciation to the British personnel who are being sent to the area for their dedication and professionalism.

The UK has established a notable presence in the area through its diplomacy and military operations. This includes RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus and Royal Navy vessels like RFA Mounts Bay and HMS Duncan, which have been stationed in the eastern Mediterranean throughout the summer to assist British citizens and allies.

The Royal Air Force has planes and transport helicopters ready to assist if needed.

The call follows a gathering that the Defence Secretary had on Tuesday afternoon with ministers, intelligence leaders, and diplomats to evaluate government preparedness.

Released on September 24, 2024.
