Lauryn Goodman was criticized by a judge for overstating her financial needs during a court battle with Manchester City footballer Kyle Walker.
The deputy captain of the England team was involved in a legal dispute with the 33-year-old model, which involved several unusual requests for child care expenses, such as a £33,000 air conditioning unit and a £31,000 artificial turf, that were rejected by the judge.
Walker, a 34-year-old man with a wife and four children, was asked to leave his expensive home in Cheshire by his wife. This happened because he had a daughter with Ms. Goodman four years after they had a son together.
In today's court decision, the judge accused Ms. Goodman of profiting from Mr. Walker's wife's betrayal.
A detailed 30-page report revealed a string of excessive shopping trips and requests, following accusations from another judge who claimed she was spending money recklessly.
Talking about Ms. Goodman's extensive list of costly requests, Walker claimed that he would not have accepted such payment demands if he were in a different profession like a painter or decorator.
"One should not take lightly the fact that each pound earned was through hard work and dedication. Just because I make a certain amount of money, earned through my own efforts, does not mean you can simply spend freely without consideration," he stated in the Central Family Court in London.
I believe that my identity, profession, and financial status are being prioritized over what is truly necessary. If I were a painter or decorator, I doubt we would have made it this far.
Ms. Goodman also faced a problem with her patio, describing it as 'dangerous' and asking for a £31,000 artificial grass replacement.
She explained to the court that her daughter, who is one year old, needed the field because she had successfully kicked a soccer ball recently and showed potential to become a skilled female player on the national team.
Ms Goodman also mentioned she required the services of a cleaner due to the presence of a large glass staircase and oversized windows in her home.
Two days after giving birth, Ms. Goodman filed a request for financial support, seeking an increase in the maintenance for their son from £110,000 to £177,000 per year.
The post revealed that the famous footballer from England decided to purchase a £2.4 million property in Sussex for her. He also splurged over £120,000 on walk-in wardrobes, blinds, curtains, sofas, and garden furniture.
According to the court testimony, Mr. Walker, who is 34 years old, had met with Kairo four times and Kinara once. Judge Edward Hess noted in his decision that Ms. Goodman wanted the relationship to progress further than it already has.
He said that Mr. Walker's choice to end their relationship in order to prioritize his marriage was a "cause of sorrow, distress, and frustration" for Ms. Goodman.
During her testimony, Ms. Goodman explained that she didn't want her kids to stand out in comparison to Mr. Walker's children from his marriage. She mentioned that the financial support was meant to ensure a stable future for her own children.
She mentioned that Mr. Walker has developed a close relationship with Kairo, who is currently sitting there, requesting for his father. The situation is really terrible.
She stated: “I am willing to do whatever it takes for my child. If that meant allowing the father of my child to have a connection with them, I would make sure that happens.”
The judge in the court case referred to Mr. Walker as "sensible, trustworthy, and dependable."
Judge Hess rejected most of Ms Goodman's requests, saying she was not trustworthy, and praised Mr Walker for his dignified and generous actions.
He said that Mr. Walker was clearly feeling embarrassed and regretful about the tough situation he had put several people, including his children, in. He also regretted his choice to keep his status as Kinara's father a secret.
"I believe he has behaved with grace and kindness. He has been honest and brave in dealing with the challenges that arose after the truth came out."
On the other hand, after evaluating the mother, I found her to be unreliable. She tended to say things that she believed would benefit her situation rather than the truth. She struggled to make rational decisions about her needs and frequently overstated her financial requirements.
