Lauren Laverne says she has been given ‘all clear’ after cancer treatment
Lauren Laverne, the host of Desert Island Discs, recently announced that she has received the “all clear” following her cancer treatment.
In a post on Instagram this Sunday, the 46-year-old announced that she would return to work on BBC One’s The One Show on Tuesday after taking some time to recover. She expressed her gratitude to the healthcare professionals who assisted her and to everyone who reached out with supportive messages.
Laverne shared a photo of herself in a vibrant blue sweater that had the phrase "Life is Beautiful" printed on it. In her post, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to the amazing medical teams that cared for her, as well as to the thousands of people who sent her kind and uplifting messages. She also appreciated her friends and acquaintances who reached out to support her, especially those who had faced cancer themselves. Most importantly, she thanked her family, highlighting her two wonderful children and her incredible husband, Graeme, who was exceptionally supportive during her journey.
She also mentioned that she has been developing new episodes of Desert Island Discs and plans to return to BBC Radio 6 Music early next year. Her last show on 6 Music was on August 15, and during her absence, DJs like Nick Grimshaw, Nemone Metaxas, and Deb Grant took over.
In August, the broadcaster shared on Instagram that she had received a cancer diagnosis. She expressed that it was caught at an early stage and that she was anticipated to make a complete recovery.
On Sunday, she mentioned that she had faced some tough challenges, but those experiences had greatly enlightened her about what truly is important in life.
She mentioned, “I wouldn’t say I suddenly wish I had hiked the Inca Trail; rather, I realize now that I appreciate the beauty in everyday moments more than I ever thought possible. I feel more strongly than ever that the little things in life—like the relationships we build and the kindness we share—are what truly matter.”
A representative from the BBC mentioned earlier in November: “We’re excited to have Lauren return to the studio this month for The One Show and Desert Island Discs. New episodes will be broadcast on Radio 4 starting December 1, and we can't wait to have her back on BBC Radio 6 Music in the new year.”
