Lauren Laverne given 'all clear' following cancer diagnosis
Broadcaster Lauren Laverne has announced that she has received the "all clear" following her cancer treatment. She shared that the experience has provided her with valuable insights into what truly matters in life.
The 46-year-old BBC host announced on Instagram this past Sunday that she will return to her job on The One Show on Tuesday following a break to focus on her recovery.
She expressed that she believes now more than ever that the little things in life—the bonds we form and the attention we give one another—are truly what matter the most.
Laverne, known for her roles as a host on BBC Radio 6 Music's breakfast show and on Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, announced her cancer diagnosis in August. She mentioned that the disease was detected in its early stages and expressed optimism about her recovery, stating that she "expected to fully recover."
In her Sunday post, she expressed gratitude to the amazing medical staff who provided her with exceptional care, as well as to the countless individuals who offered her heartfelt and uplifting messages.
"Above all, I want to express my gratitude to my family: my two amazing children and especially my husband Graeme, who was truly exceptional during this time," she stated.
It's been a challenging period, but it has given me valuable lessons about what truly counts.
"I wouldn't say I wish I had hiked the Inca Trail; rather, I realize now that I appreciate the beauty in everyday moments much more than I ever thought possible."
She also shared a photo of herself in a sweater that said, "Life is beautiful."
In August, she mentioned that her cancer was found "unexpectedly during a screening." She encouraged anyone who is "delaying a test or appointment" to seek medical attention.
She has not indicated the specific kind of cancer she has been diagnosed with.
Laverne started substituting for Kirsty Young on Desert Island Discs in 2018 and eventually became the regular host.
In her position, she has had the opportunity to interview notable figures such as Cillian Murphy, Steven Spielberg, Rebel Wilson, Delia Smith, Kate Mosse, and John Legend.
In the past, she hosted BBC Two's The Culture Show and Channel 4's 10 O'Clock Live. During the 1990s, she was also a singer and guitarist for the alternative rock band Kenickie.
A representative from the BBC shared, "We’re thrilled to have Lauren return to the studio this month for The One Show and Desert Island Discs. New episodes will be released on Radio 4 starting December 1st, and we’re excited to see her back on BBC Radio 6 Music in the upcoming year."
