Lauren Laverne: Desert Island Discs presenter diagnosed with cancer
BBC host Lauren Laverne shared that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.
In a post on Instagram early Wednesday, Laverne shared that her cancer was discovered "early and unexpectedly" during a routine screening.
She also informed her followers that she is "anticipated to fully recover" and expressed gratitude towards the healthcare professionals who had attended to her.
Laverne hosts the morning show on BBC Radio 6 Music and is also the presenter of Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4.
Laverne shared in her message that she is currently in the hospital and wanted to express her gratitude. She specifically wanted to thank the medical staff for their exceptional expertise and compassion that has helped her during this time.
The 46-year-old expressed gratitude towards her coworkers for supporting her and allowing her the time off to focus on her recovery.
She said her family and friends have been incredibly supportive throughout the entire journey.
Laverne encouraged individuals who were "delaying a test or postponing an appointment" to go get examined as soon as possible.
"Many of us will experience cancer at some time in our lives, so detecting it quickly is crucial," she remarked.
Her final thoughts included: "I usually bring positive energy on the show, but any extra good vibes you have are greatly appreciated here. I'm sending lots of love to anyone going through a rough time, or to those who have overcome their struggles."
Apart from her radio gigs, Laverne has hosted several television programs like The One Show on the BBC and Channel 4's 10 O'Clock Live.
Laverne became widely known as the main vocalist and guitarist of the pop punk band Kenickie in the 1990s.
After sharing her diagnosis on Instagram, the radio host received supportive comments from her friends and followers.
