Desert Island Discs presenter Lauren Laverne reveals she has cancer
Lauren Laverne, the host of Desert Island Discs, recently shared that she is currently in the hospital due to a cancer diagnosis.
On a recent Instagram post, the 46-year-old TV personality shared that she had been diagnosed with an illness but caught it early and is expected to make a complete recovery.
On Wednesday morning, she shared some personal news on social media. She revealed that she has been diagnosed with cancer, but luckily it was caught early during a routine screening test. She is optimistic about making a full recovery.
In a message accompanying a photo of herself seated in a hospital bed, Laverne informed her 250,000 followers that she is currently hospitalized.
She expressed gratitude to the medical staff at the hospital, praising their remarkable skill and kindness for helping her reach this point.
Laverne described her family and friends as incredibly supportive throughout the entire journey.
She also expressed gratitude to BBC 6 Music, where she hosts a morning show, and her colleagues at Desert Island Discs for allowing her the necessary time off to recuperate.
She encouraged all of her followers to not wait to get tested if they were worried about potential signs of cancer.
She also mentioned that if anyone is hesitant about taking a test or postponing a check-up, they should not wait any longer. It is important to remember that almost half of us will experience cancer at some stage in our lives, so it is crucial to find out as soon as possible.
In her final words, Laverne expressed that she usually spreads positivity on the radio, but she is grateful for any good vibes that others can share. She sends love to those going through similar experiences and to those who have overcome their challenges.
Sports commentator Gabby Logan wrote a message of love and healing for Lauren, while actress Vicky McClure sent her best wishes for a quick recovery.
Laverne's colleagues from the BBC, Clara Amfo and Dermot O'Leary, along with actor Richard E Grant and former Match of the Day host Ian Wright, all shared heart emojis in response.
The feminist author Caitlin Moran expressed her support for her friend, Loz, who is battling cancer. Moran pledged to fight alongside Loz and send love and well wishes.
Laverne started stepping in for Kirsty Young as the host of Desert Island Discs on Radio 4 in 2018 when Young had to take a break due to health problems.
She eventually assumed the position permanently and has conducted interviews with celebrities such as Cate Blanchett and Stanley Tucci, as well as Young, throughout the years.
She became famous as the main vocalist of the 90s pop punk group Kenickie.
Following the announcement of Laverne's diagnosis on her morning radio show, Deb Grant, who was filling in for her, expressed: "I just wanted to let you know that all of us here at 6 Music are keeping you in our thoughts. We can't wait for you to return to us soon... we are all sending our love to you, Laverne."
Next, Grant decided to play the song "We Can Work It Out" and mentioned that it was a favorite of Laverne's.
