BBC presenter Lauren Laverne reveals she has cancer
BBC host Lauren Laverne shared with her audience that she is currently receiving treatment for cancer.
The famous entertainer, age 46, who hosts Desert Island Discs on Radio 4 and has been a frequent host on various BBC shows for a long time, expressed gratitude towards her medical team and loved ones as she detailed the recent events in a social media update on Instagram.
Updating everyone from my hospital bed, I wanted to let you know that I have been diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully, it was detected early during a routine screening and the doctors believe I will fully recover.
"I'm currently hospitalized and I just wanted to express my gratitude to the amazing medical staff who have cared for me with such skill and compassion."
I want to thank my family and friends who have been amazing throughout this journey. I am truly grateful and have a lot of love for all of you.
She also expressed gratitude to her coworkers for their support and for allowing her the necessary time off to recover.

Laverne informed her 250,000 followers that she wanted to motivate others to stay vigilant about scheduling and attending their medical tests and appointments.
"If you're delaying a test or postponing an appointment for a check-up, please make sure to do it today," she stated. "Approximately 50% of us will develop cancer at some stage, and if you're one of them, early detection is crucial."
The speaker ended her message by stating: "I typically bring positivity on the radio, but if you have any good energy, please share it here. Sending love to anyone going through a similar situation or who has overcome their challenges."
She didn't provide any specifics about the type of cancer she is getting treatment for.
