Treasury secretary falters over 'basic' debt question
The head administrator of the Treasury department, Laura Trott, seemed unsure when asked about the amount of debt the government has accumulated during her appearance on BBC Radio 4's PM show.
Presenter Evan Davis, who worked as the economics editor for the BBC previously, proposed that the government's debt is expected to increase. He then posed a question to Ms. Trott regarding how this would align with the potential implementation of tax reductions.
At first, she had a different opinion and claimed that the debt was decreasing compared to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Evan Davis argued against her by stating that he was referring to the GDP statistics and found it surprising that she was unaware of the fact that the debt was actually increasing. He emphasized that this was a fundamental concept.
