Shadow cabinet appointments: Laura Trott appointed shadow education secretary
Kemi Badenoch is putting together her team for the shadow cabinet.
After being elected as the head of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch has started to select individuals for her shadow cabinet. The process of making these appointments is anticipated to finish by Tuesday, November 5.
Badenoch's initial choice was Laura Trott, who has been assigned the role of shadow education minister.
Trott's prior experience in a cabinet role was limited to serving as Chief Secretary to the Treasury during the final moments of Rishi Sunak's administration.
Last year, disability advocacy groups strongly condemned her for stating that individuals with disabilities had an obligation to seek employment that they could perform from home.
Neil O'Brien has been named as a junior shadow minister for education.
In conjunction with the new roles within Badenoch's shadow education team, Rebecca Harris has been named the chief whip. Additionally, Nigel Huddlestone and Dominic Johnson will serve as co-chairs of the Conservative Party.
Before the news broke, there were speculations that Trott would be named as the Shadow Chancellor. However, later that same day, Mel Stride was given the position instead. Additionally, in the late afternoon of November 4, Priti Patel was appointed as the Shadow Foreign Secretary.
