Laura Trott appointed shadow education secretary
The Member of Parliament for Sevenoaks, who previously served as the chief secretary to the Treasury, has been appointed by Kemi Badenoch to head the Conservative education team.
The Member of Parliament for Sevenoaks and former Chief Secretary to the Treasury has been selected by Kemi Badenoch to head the education team for the Conservative Party.
Reports indicate that Laura Trott has been selected as the shadow education secretary in Kemi Badenoch's team on the front bench.
The appointment took place today only a few hours before Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson and her team are set to answer questions about education in Parliament.
Trott represents Sevenoaks in Kent and has previously held the positions of pensions minister and chief secretary to the Treasury under Rishi Sunak's administration.
The announcement follows Badenoch's victory in the Conservative leadership contest, where she defeated her rival Robert Jenrick, securing 56.5 percent of the votes from party members.
Trott takes over from Damian Hinds, who was the previous education secretary and schools minister. Hinds had been holding the shadow position since the Conservatives lost the election in July.
It's uncertain if Hinds will take on a different position within the front-bench team.
