According to reports, the father of 17-year-old Spanish soccer player Lamine Yamal was attacked and stabbed several times in a parking lot.

As stated in news from Spanish media, Mounir Nasraoui was assaulted in the seaside town of Mataró, located north of Barcelona, on Wednesday night by a group of individuals he had interacted with earlier that day.

The Catalan authorities have stated that three individuals were taken into custody on Wednesday, with a fourth person being apprehended on Thursday morning.

Mr. Nasraoui was brought to a hospital in Barcelona in a critical condition, but his condition has since improved and he is now reported to be in a stable state.

The alleged assault happened close to the Rocafonda area, where Yamal spent his childhood.

According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Mr. Nasraoui reportedly got into a disagreement with a group of individuals he met while out walking his dog earlier in the day.

Some time later, the group came up to him again in a parking lot and attacked him with a knife multiple times.

It is unclear what motivated the stabbing.

According to a post on the sports website Relevo, Mr. Nasraoui is expected to stay in the hospital for two to three days for monitoring.

Lamine Yamal, the youngest player ever from Spain, shined in Euro 2024 and was awarded the title of Young Player of the Tournament.

The player on the edge of the field helped create Nico Williams's first goal as Spain defeated England 2-1 in the championship game in Berlin.

Not long after Spain won the trophy, supporters gathered on the streets of Mataró to honor their emerging talent.

Growing up in the town, Yamal later joined the renowned La Masia academy in Barcelona during his teenage years.
