Mounir Nasraoui, who is the dad of the famous Barcelona and Spain player Lamine Yamal, was said to have been attacked with a knife on Wednesday night at a parking lot in Mataró, a town in the northeast of Spain. La Vanguardia newspaper reported this information based on sources close to the situation.

The news outlet Reuters could not verify the report on its own. The local Mossos d'Esquadra police force and a representative from the Mataró city government did not immediately answer requests for a statement.

As per the article in La Vanguardia, Nasraoui was brought to Can Ruti hospital in Badalona, and his condition was described as "severe". The report also mentioned that both local and regional police had found multiple witnesses to the incident.

But, a subsequent update from sports website Relevo, which also referenced official sources, stated that Nasraoui had been released from the hospital and returned to his residence.

Just recently, Nasraoui, aged 35, saw his son achieve the title of the youngest player to participate and score at a European Championship during Spain's victory at Euro 2024. Lamine Yamal had an impressive debut season in La Liga and played a key role in Spain's success, scoring a goal against France in the semi-final match and ultimately helping Spain defeat England in the final.
