Pictured: Boy, 15, shot dead during ‘family fun day’ in park
A shooter killed a young student after shooting a gun in the air to disperse the crowds at a family event in a park in London, according to a witness on Monday. This happened just before filming for a crime movie was set to begin.
Parents and children were having fun together when a dangerous person shot a gun into the air and then aimed at a 15-year-old boy around 7pm on Sunday night.
The police identified the boy who was killed as Rene Graham on Monday.
Law enforcement and other emergency responders quickly arrived at the location in Emslie Horniman's Pleasance in Ladbroke Grove, but sadly, they were unable to rescue Rene. Four young men, between the ages of 21 and 25, were taken into custody on suspicion of committing murder and are currently being held by authorities.
Law enforcement officials have identified the person who was shot as a 15-year-old named Rene Graham.
During the incident, it is estimated that over a thousand individuals were present at the yearly Park Lime event, put together by the Caribbean Music Association. The event was promoted as a "family-friendly day" with live music, activities, and face painting.
One young person at the scene explained, "Everyone was relaxing and enjoying themselves when suddenly I heard a gunshot. A man fired a warning shot into the air, it seemed like he was trying to get people to move out of the way. After that, everyone started running away. I could hear screams in the distance, and then he shot the boy who was lying on the ground."
People were panicking and seeking shelter, it was chaotic. It seemed like a deliberate attack, like a planned murder. There are numerous conflicts between the Harrow Road group and their enemies in this area.
A different observer said: "I heard two loud sounds and then the young man fell to the ground. It seemed like he was struck in the chest. People were panicking, running in all directions. Suddenly, there were sirens blaring and police officers swarming the scene. The event had been going smoothly, but then chaos erupted."
Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, who oversees policing in Kensington and Chelsea, stated: "A young boy has sadly passed away, and our condolences go out to his loved ones during this heartbreaking period. We will continue to offer them specialized assistance."
"We are just beginning this investigation, and we are not ruling out any possible motives. We will need some time to gather all the information and determining what happened will be our main focus in the days ahead."
Events like this remind us why it's crucial to keep working hard to stop violence and gun crimes, and to catch those responsible for putting our communities at risk.
A woman with two children at the park said, "I heard two gunshots and saw everyone running. There was chaos, with people screaming and a boy lying on the ground. It was awful. I have sons and I worry for their safety whenever they leave the house. It feels like a dangerous area around here."
Investigators and police officers were working together on Monday to look for evidence, such as shell casings and security camera footage, near the Kensal New Town housing development.
A forensic tent showed where the boy got shot, and the police kept a cordon in the area.
Investigators are currently present at the location where the shooting took place.
The victim was found with injuries by the police, but unfortunately passed away on the scene despite the emergency services' attempts to save him.
The authorities are asking for anyone who knows anything about the murder to get in touch with them. They also mentioned that they have detained six individuals for questioning in connection with the crime.
The team making the crime thriller movie Fuze, featuring actors Theo James and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, had to wait to begin filming at the park on Monday morning because of a police barrier. The movie revolves around a heist set in World War II, where criminals take advantage of an evacuation caused by an unexploded bomb to carry out their robbery.
One team member expressed their sorrow over the unfortunate events that occurred at this location while filming a crime thriller.
Emslie Horniman's Pleasance is commonly referred to as “Teletubbies Park” by those in the area because of its vibrant and colorful children's play area.
The park was holding the yearly "Park Lime" event, put together by the Caribbean Music Association. It is advertised as a day of family fun, featuring music and food vendors.
Many individuals, including families with young ones, had come to the event before the shooting occurred.
Even though the emergency services tried their hardest, he was declared deceased at the location.
Six individuals have been taken into custody in connection with a murder investigation.
A video posted on social media depicted police cars and ambulances parked outside of the park.
Someone who lives in the area wrote on the Ladbroke Grove neighborhood Facebook page that the attacker came out of the bushes and started shooting.
I was with my teenage kids and my brother. My brother witnessed the man emerging from the bushes and shooting a gun into the crowd. He was standing right next to him. I recently watched a video of the young boy being treated by paramedics. It's heartbreaking that he lost his life just for attending a party and enjoying himself.
I can't even fathom the emotions that the parents must be experiencing, it's overwhelming.
I heard someone say to the Standard, "I saw a few men getting arrested near my apartment."
Police officers with guns arrived and placed handcuffs on the young individuals, who appeared to be between 18 and 20 years old. This incident occurred shortly after the shooting, and the officers were heard shouting "armed police" before loading the individuals into a van.
Pastor Lorraine Jones, whose son Dwayne passed away at 21 after bravely defending a boy in Brixton, went to the location to offer her support to the community.
She mentioned that incidents of gun violence have been increasing. It is shocking that people attending a family gathering witnessed a young boy lose his life. The level of brutality is beyond comprehension.
I was the mother who received the heartbreaking news that her son had passed away. It was the kind of news that no parent ever wants to hear; the pain was indescribable.
Councilor Elizabeth Campbell, leader of Kensington and Chelsea council, went to the location of the crime on Monday morning.
She expressed her dismay at the tragic death of a child during what was supposed to be a fun family outing. She came to offer her support to the community in their time of need.
A lady who was at the event with her family shared that the lack of security was the reason for the chaotic evacuation of the park after the shooting.
The mother explained that only two security guards were present and they did not properly evacuate the park. She and her group were in the rear of the park and were not informed about the shooting, only hearing the sound of gunfire.
No one listened to the DJ's instructions to evacuate, and the party carried on while the boy was dying. The ambulances were unable to get through, and the air ambulance was unable to land.
The residents are asking for an investigation into why there was not enough security when a boy was shot just a few feet away while people were dancing and laughing.
She said: "I witnessed a boy being taken into custody by police officers who were carrying weapons. I overheard him having a disagreement with the police."
