Kirstie Allsopp ‘so embarrassed’ by Gregg Wallace sex remark
TV host Kirstie Allsopp shared that she felt extremely embarrassed and on the verge of tears after Gregg Wallace reportedly made a remark regarding his personal life.
Allsopp, who is 53 years old, recounted that the incident happened a few years back in a lounge for performers while she was working on a pilot episode for a television quiz show with Wallace and his partner.
She shared with BBC Radio 4’s The World This Weekend: “I had been talking with her when she stepped out of the room, and he (Wallace) mentioned something they did while in bed.”
You know that sensation when you're so mortified that tears might start streaming down your face? It's like your insides are on fire with embarrassment. I experienced that once, and it stayed with me ever since.
Wallace is facing several accusations, including making "offensive sexual comments," requesting the phone numbers of female production staff, and being overly familiar by undressing and standing too close to the women involved in his projects.
Allsopp expressed her frustration over a video shared by the 60-year-old MasterChef host on Instagram. In the video, he suggested that the complaints directed at him were originating from a small group of affluent women of a specific age group.
Wallace is seen alongside his Masterchef host, John Torode.
The host of Location, Location, Location remarked, “That’s not right. He seems to suggest that this is a matter of class and that middle-class women can’t grasp what he’s talking about due to his working-class background. I believe he’s really doing a great disservice to men.”
What is he implying? That men from working-class backgrounds behave this way, causing shame to their wives, girlfriends, sisters, and mothers? That's simply not true and completely unacceptable.
"I completely get the concept of playful teasing. As a mom of sons—two biological sons and two stepsons—I’ve seen plenty of it. However, there is a significant distinction between friendly banter and the type of remark that Gregg Wallace directed at me."
She mentioned that she wished she had spoken up to the former greengrocer at that moment.
This follows the announcement that Wallace will be stepping down from the BBC cooking program as historical misconduct allegations are being examined by Banijay UK, the show's producer.
He is also being accused of making inappropriate sexual remarks by 13 individuals from various shows over the course of 17 years. This information was reported by BBC News, which mentioned that it reached out to the TV star's representatives with a letter earlier this week.
Wallace's attorneys assert that it is completely untrue that he acts inappropriately in a sexually harassing way.
The presenter's team has been reached out to for a statement.
