Melania Trump has shared that she corresponds with King Charles through letters.
The surprising bond between the queen and the ex-model, who is married to Donald Trump, was disclosed in her autobiography, Melania.
The former First Lady, who is 54 years old, shared that after they initially met in New York in 2005, they crossed paths again in 2019 during an official visit to the UK, while Trump was already serving as President.
"The state banquet that evening was a grand and sophisticated event. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Prince Charles, and it was wonderful to catch up with him," Melania expressed.
“We first met several years back in New York City. This time, we had an engaging discussion about his strong dedication to protecting the environment.”
"Melania: A Memoir" shares the story of Ms. Trump’s early life in Slovenia, her career as a fashion model, and her eventual connection with Donald Trump, which led her to become the second first lady in American history to be born outside the United States.
Mr. Trump, who is seeking a second presidential term, is believed to have a positive rapport with the royal family. Reports indicate that King Charles contacted him with a letter after a botched assassination attempt that occurred earlier this year.
The details of the king's communication with the Republican candidate are still confidential.
This positive bond was mentioned in Melania's memoir, where she stated that she and her husband had a genuine connection with the late Queen Elizabeth II.
She mentioned that during their trip in 2019, they were welcomed with incredible warmth and generosity, and the late queen even presented the former First Lady with a silver box that featured designs from the ceiling of the music room at Buckingham Palace.
While the Trumps seem to enjoy a good relationship with the British royals on the surface, there have been mixed reports regarding the late Queen Elizabeth II's feelings about the former president.
In his 2024 biography titled *A Voyage Around The Queen*, royal expert Craig Brown stated that the late monarch perceived Mr. Trump as "extremely impolite."
"The book notes that she found it especially frustrating how he kept glancing past her, as if he was on the lookout for someone more captivating."
Nevertheless, this assertion was refuted by Mr. Trump himself. He labeled the writer as a "sleazebag" and affirmed that he shared a "great relationship" with Britain's longest-serving monarch, calling her a "great woman."
The bond between Ms. Trump and the British royal is just one of many surprising disclosures in the memoir. Additionally, the former first lady shared her stance on the issue of abortion, stating that she supports pro-choice views.
“It is essential to ensure that women have the right to make their own choices about having children, based on their personal beliefs, without any influence or pressure from the government,” she stated.
"Why should anyone besides the woman herself have the authority to decide what happens to her body?"
Her remarks stand in stark contrast to her husband’s stance, as he has claimed responsibility for the contentious reversal of Roe vs. Wade in 2022, which restricted access to abortion for many women in the United States.
The Independent has contacted Buckingham Palace for a response.
