People are questioning the Secret Service's actions during the Pennsylvania rally where there was a shooter targeting former president Donald Trump.

Trump was struck in the ear approximately 10 minutes after beginning his speech near Butler, located in the southwest part of the state, on Saturday.

The person who shot at the rally attendees was named Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was 20 years old. He was shot and killed by a sniper from the Secret Service after he fired multiple shots, injuring two people and causing the death of one person.

However, some believe that the whole incident could have been prevented. According to one person who saw everything happen, they told the police about seeing a man carrying a rifle crawling on a roof close by.

Kimberly Cheatle, the head of the agency established 159 years ago, has been summoned to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee. She will face tough questioning about how her organization dealt with the Butler shooting.

Cheatle's appointment in 2022 was already causing a lot of controversy, and the recent health scare of the former president has only made people more worried that she might not be the best person for the job.

But who is Kimberly Cheatle? MailOnline checks out the current director of the Secret Service.

Trump was struck in the ear by a bullet approximately 10 minutes after he began his speech.

He was spotted with blood on his face over the weekend.

Cheatle started working for the Secret Service in 1995 and slowly advanced in her career by protecting political leaders during significant moments in recent American history.

She helped with getting former vice-president Dick Cheney to safety during the September 11th attacks in 2001.

The police officer completed the agency's advanced training program and was later promoted to the position of deputy assistant director in charge of training at the agency.

According to Security Magazine, she completely changed the way training was done at the Secret Service by introducing a new regional, in-service training program.

After that, she was responsible for overseeing the security team for Joe Biden when he held the position of vice-president under the Obama administration from 2009 to 2017.

After working with Biden, she was promoted to assistant director of Protective Operations, a division with a budget of almost $134 million. This department focuses on creating, testing, and implementing technologies to lessen risks for individuals under protection, safeguarded locations, and secure events, as stated on the Secret Service's official site.

After working in the Secret Service for more than 20 years, she decided to move on to a new role at PepsiCo as the senior director of global security. In this position, she was responsible for creating security procedures for PepsiCo's facilities in North America.

She described her experience at the company as: 'I enjoy having a variety of tasks and juggling different responsibilities. I am energized by a busy and dynamic work environment.'

During her time at PepsiCo, she received a prestigious Presidential Rank Award for her outstanding performance from Joe Biden.

Former President Donald Trump, who is running for president as a Republican, was assisted off the stage during a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Republican candidate Donald Trump was escorted off stage at a campaign event by secret service agents, with blood on his face.

The gunman was eliminated by a sniper from the Secret Service.

Biden pointed to her experience in his security team when he chose her to lead the agency at the end of 2022. She is just the second woman ever to be in charge of the Secret Service since its establishment.

He stated: 'Jill and I have personal experience of Kim's dedication to her work and to the people and goals of the Secret Service.'

'While Kim was part of my security team while I held the position of Vice President, we grew to rely on her decisions and advice.'

She is a respected law enforcement expert with outstanding leadership abilities, making her the top candidate to lead the agency during a crucial time for the Secret Service.

I have total confidence in her, and I am excited to collaborate with her.

Cheatle assumed leadership of the agency during a tumultuous period marked by various scandals concerning the disappearance of messages sent and received by its agents on January 6, 2021, when the US Capitol was overrun by aggressive protesters opposed to President Biden.

The agency's parent organization, the Department of Homeland Security, has been criticized for not working together with House committees who are looking into the attack.

Additionally, there have been multiple occasions in the past decade where Service agents have been involved in public drunkenness and interactions with sex workers while on duty overseas, as well as lapses in security leading to trespassers gaining access to the grounds of the White House.

There was a very embarrassing moment when a man and woman managed to get into a fancy dinner at the White House in 2009 without being invited.

The pair, Michaele and Tareq Salahi from Virginia, somehow made their way into the line to meet with Barack and Michelle Obama in the Blue Room, where the 400 invited guests were being welcomed.

The pair was spotted alongside the former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh.

Trump made a fist gesture as he was escorted off the platform by Secret Service agents.

An onlooker reported seeing a person moving on their hands and knees across the rooftop shortly before the gunfire began.

What Challenges Does Cheatle Face Now?

The Secret Service's past mistakes from the last ten years were highlighted again this weekend, putting Cheatle, the agency's leader, under intense scrutiny.

The agency had to reject a statement made by Florida representative Mike Waltz, who said that Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas had consistently turned down requests to enhance the Secret Service's security measures.

Anthony Guglielmi, head of communications for the Secret Service, stated on X that there is a false claim about a request for more security resources from a member of the former president's team being denied. This is completely untrue.

Indeed, we included additional measures and advanced technology and skills to improve the effectiveness of our campaign travels.

However, Cheatle is anticipated to be responsible for the reported mistakes in Pennsylvania during the weekend.

She will be appearing in front of the House Oversight Committee for a hearing on July 22nd.

House Speaker Mike Johnson stated on X during the weekend that the House will thoroughly investigate the devastating events.

The citizens of America have a right to the truth. We will schedule a hearing with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle and other relevant officials from the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation as soon as possible.
