Kieran Tierney, the Scottish defender, won't be participating in their important Group A match against Hungary on Sunday, wherein their victory is crucial to their Euro 2024 aspirations.
During the 1-1 match against Switzerland, Tierney suffered a hamstring injury and had to be carried off on a stretcher. Steve Clarke has verified that he will not be able to participate in Scotland's next game, at the minimum.
To make it to the final 16 of a major international competition for the first time, Scotland needs to defeat Hungary in Stuttgart. This comes after securing a valuable point against Switzerland in Cologne.
Tierney getting injured was bad news for the team and makes things harder for the defense. The team was already lacking players with Aaron Hickey and Nathan Paterson not playing, and Ryan Porteous getting suspended for the next match after his red card in their last game against Germany where they lost 5-1.
Clarke was happy with how Scotland reacted following their initial defeat in Munich, as their efforts allowed them to remain in contention for advancement to the knockout round.
Clarke commented that the team's performance was in line with their expectations, as they have maintained this level over the past few years, which is the reason they have reached this point. The players were aware of their responsibilities and executed them accordingly.
According to Clarke, the genuine Scotland team presented themselves and expressed: "We're still in the tournament. It's a matter of continuously improving. Sometimes luck is on your side, but we returned to our strengths and put in the effort."
The coach in charge of Scotland believes that the team will approach their upcoming match against Hungary in Group A with a more positive mindset after their loss to Germany, who were playing on their home turf.
Clarke expressed that the team would have a renewed sense of confidence for their upcoming game. He acknowledged the team's tough and competitive character, which was evident in their aggressive demeanor during the previous match. Although it may not be the prettiest style of play, the team was able to create opportunities and showcase their abilities.
