Nottingham Forest sign Keylor Navas on loan from PSG

1 Feb 2023

Nottingham Forest have signed Keylor Navas on loan for the rest of the season from Paris Saint-Germain.

The goalkeeper had a medical in France, with the pieces quickly falling into place in a deal that has brought the Costa Rica international to the City Ground.

There were complications relating to the remainder of Navas’ contract with the French club, which had looked likely to curtail his move.

But these hurdles were overcome, which has allowed the experienced stopper to become the latest big name addition at Forest.

Forest have been pursuing the 110-cap Costa Rica international since Dean Henderson collected a thigh injury against Leicester City on January 14 — a problem that could see him sidelined for much of next month.

Navas has lost his place to Gianluigi Donnarumma in Paris and is keen to move in search of regular first team football.

In the meantime, Forest have also stepped up their interest in 18-year-old Gabriel, who has already made 77 appearances for Santos, having made his debut shortly before his 16th birthday, to become the club’s second youngest ever player.

The winger or forward, who is regarded as being one of the brightest young talents in Brazil, had been the subject of interest from Newcastle last summer. He has been on Forest’s shortlist of potential targets for some time.

But, with Morgan Gibbs-White sidelined with an ankle problem, Forest have accelerated their efforts to sign him.

The logistics of any move — which would cost in the region of £16million to £17million — will be challenging, with the deadline edging rapidly closer.
