Former Real Madrid star Keylor Navas snubs Cristiano Ronaldo ...

1 Feb 2023

Paris Saint-Germain star Keylor Navas has turned down the chance to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo in favour of joining Nottingham Forest on loan.

The Costa Rica international had been at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Forest and Saudi side Al-Nassr, who recently snapped up Ronaldo on record-breaking wages following his departure from Manchester United.

But the Premier League outfit have won the battle in a major boost to Steve Cooper’s team, with the 36-year-old agreeing to Forest’s proposal over Al-Nassr.

Navas had the chance to reunite with Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia, with the two winning three Champions League titles together at Real Madrid.

However, the PSG man wants to try his hand at keeping Forest in the top division over a big pay day.

The Costa Rican fell down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes, where Gianluigi Donnarumma is firmly first-choice.

Al Nassr had growing interest in Navas throughout the month while PSG were in Saudi Arabia to play in a exhibition clash.

Navas actually conceded a penalty in the match by punching former Los Blancos teammate Ronaldo in the face, leaving him with a black eye – so it might be no surprise why he is in no rush to reunite with the Portuguese superstar anytime soon.

Former Arsenal star David Ospina is Al Nassr’s current first-choice but the Colombian is currently injured.

However, a short-term move to Forest is now the most likely option, with Bournemouth among the other clubs interested.

What it means in the summer remains to be seen, but Forest boss Cooper will be over the moon if he lands the world-class goalkeeper to plug the gap left behind by injured No.1 Dean Henderson.

The Manchester United loanee is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury while the City Ground outfit cannot afford to let their recent form slide off as they look to stay in the top tier.

Forest have had a brilliant January, winning two and drawing two of their last four Premier League matches to shoot up the table.

They currently sit 13th but still remain just four points from the relegation zone and any dip in form could be catastrophic.
