Starmer comparison does a disservice to speed awareness trainers | Briefs

Ian Martin is not being fair to leaders of speed awareness courses when he compares Keir Starmer's performance in a debate to them. I personally attended one of these courses a couple of years ago, and it was enlightening to see that both men and women were represented equally in the group. The two leaders of the course did a fantastic job of presenting the information in an entertaining way, using their humor to emphasize the importance of the message. I even joked that they could have had successful careers as comedians.

In trying to understand old references in crossword puzzles, I had to get help from my granddaughter to explain the term "clout bombing." It just goes to show that sometimes different generations have different understandings of language.

Before we start celebrating Chris Skidmore's support (I used to be a conservative minister, but now I support a Labour government, June 21), let's not forget about Britannia Unchained. Skidmore was one of the writers of this terrible book that helped launch the careers of Kwasi Kwarteng, Priti Patel, Dominic Raab, and Liz Truss. Skidmore still has a lot to make up for. Is it possible that in October, the Guardian will give the job of reviewing Boris Johnson's memoir Unleashed to John Crace (Letters, 20 June)? We can expect to have some fun reading the review before deciding if the book should be considered as real crime or fiction. Michael Elkington Orpington, Kent.
