'Great to prove people wrong - I'm back on top again'

Katie Taylor

Throughout her illustrious professional journey, Katie Taylor declared her incredible rematch against Chantelle Cameron as her most outstanding accomplishment yet.

Half a year ago, she was defeated as a professional and lowered her head in disappointment, while Cameron happily embraced her team to celebrate their victorious win.

When Taylor was in Ireland, her biggest fear came to life and it appeared as if the top female boxer in the world had reached her limit.

However, if we fast forward to Saturday evening, within the identical arena, competing against the same adversary, and at the same weight category, Taylor exemplified the qualities of remarkable fighters by resurging once more.

During the news conference after the fight, Taylor expressed that he felt slighted by the way people were dismissing him. However, he found satisfaction in proving them wrong and reclaiming his position at the top.

This is the stuff of dreams. To become a two-division undisputed champion, it's beyond imagination.

I felt so much stress before this match. The wait for the rematch seemed to last forever; it was a whole six months. I couldn't sleep well at night because I couldn't stop thinking about my previous defeat.

Taylor came into this world in a nation that prohibited her involvement in boxing and was thrown into a society in which women were not granted permission to compete in boxing at the Olympics. Preceding female pugilists like Deirdre Gogarty and Jane Couch were disparaged and invalidated.

With determination and perseverance, she overcame various challenges and ultimately triumphed by being awarded a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. She then became the first boxer from Ireland to attain the status of an undisputed world champion in the era of four belts, and to top it off, sold out Madison Square Garden.

However, Taylor expressed that defeating Briton Cameron made her feel like it was the most significant moment in her career thus far.

Taylor's face told the story of a vicious fight. She had significant bruising and swelling on her left side as she addressed reporters in the backstage area of the 3Arena.

Cameron was the unbeatable light-welterweight champion, having won all 18 of her fights. Even Taylor, who had fought against her on Saturday, couldn't beat her.

The current titleholder performed exceptionally well in the last three rounds, putting immense strain on Taylor. However, Taylor was able to remain upright and prevent a possible catastrophic score of 10-8 against her.

Cameron refrained from lamenting when a possible knockdown against Taylor in the initial round was deemed to be a slip by the referee. She showed her approval towards Taylor after the scorecards went in Taylor's favor.

Claressa Shields, who has also won titles in two different weight classes, expressed her admiration for the two female fighters on social media by saying "I commend both of these women; it requires the participation of two individuals to achieve greatness."

A third fight between Taylor and Cameron is currently being planned. This would be a historic occasion as it would be the first time in women's boxing that a super-fight has gone past two fights.

Taylor stated that having a trilogy for the sport would be extremely memorable. She also mentioned that if the trilogy could take place in Croke Park with a crowd of 80,000 people, it would be even better.

"It would be fantastic if that stadium became the venue for our homecoming event, as it's the one we all desired."

Eddie Hearn, who promotes Taylor and Cameron, has entered into a confrontational situation with the officials associated with Croke Park.

At the beginning of this year, he talked extensively about how the higher-ups at the arena for Gaelic games had set a price that made it impossible for Taylor to have a homecoming, causing irritation among the said higher-ups.

It's apparent from the amount of backing Taylor received in her past two bouts that she could easily fill up Croke Park.

Hearn declared that the sole battles deserving of the heightened attention given by the Dublin site would be those between Cameron and a re-match with Amanda Serrano.

Nevertheless, he shifted his focus from trying to appeal to Croke Park's sense of loyalty to Ireland to condemning the stadium for requiring expenses that surpass those of Wembley Stadium located in London.

According to Hearn, pressure must be applied by all entities, such as the nation, politicians, and the sports industry.

If they fail to recognize the empathetic aspect of dedicating this evening and this occasion to their most outstanding athlete, then I am uncertain about our intentions.

It appears that Taylor, who is currently 37 years old, has no intention of retiring. Her current record stands at 23 fights with just one loss. When asked about her first fight with Cameron, Taylor mentioned that she only watched a brief 10-second clip of it.

As Taylor shifts her focus to yet another incredible night at Croke Park, she continues to reign supreme in the world.
