Donald Trump chooses youngest ever White House press secretary
Ms. Leavitt previously served as a press secretary for Mr. Trump's election campaign and is now acting as a spokesperson for his transition into the White House.
At the age of 27, Ms. Leavitt is set to make history as the youngest individual to serve as the White House press secretary.
Karoline Leavitt performed exceptionally well as the National Press Secretary for my groundbreaking campaign, and I am excited to share that she will take on the role of White House Press Secretary," Mr. Trump stated in a Friday announcement.
"Karoline is intelligent, resilient, and has shown herself to be an excellent communicator. I’m completely confident that she will shine on stage and effectively convey our message to the American public as we work to Make America Great Again."
Ms. Leavitt responded in a post on X, saying, "I appreciate your belief in me, President Trump. I feel grateful and privileged. Let's work together to make America great again!"
The press secretary at the White House usually represents the administration to the public and has traditionally conducted daily briefings for journalists.
During his first term, Mr. Trump broke away from traditional practices by choosing to act as his own main communicator.
During his presidency from 2017 to 2021, Mr. Trump had four different press secretaries. However, he often chose to communicate directly with the public through political rallies, his personal social media accounts, and media briefings.
During a press conference in August, Mr. Trump was questioned about whether he planned to conduct regular press briefings in his upcoming administration.
He informed the media: "You'll have complete access, and there will be plenty of press conferences, plus you'll receive updates from me."
Regarding the press secretary, he mentioned, "They will likely take some action. It might not happen every day, but you'll definitely see a significant amount. You’ll have more updates than you might expect."
Ms. Leavitt, originally from New Hampshire, is recognized as a passionate and media-savvy supporter of Mr. Trump. She is known for her quick thinking and her ability to provide strong defenses of the Republican leader during TV interviews.
In the course of Mr. Trump's initial term, Ms. Leavitt was employed in the press office of the White House.
