VfB Stuttgart secured a remarkable 1-0 victory over Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday, with El Bilal Toure scoring during stoppage time. This marked the first defeat for Juventus this season.
The German team, celebrating their first win in the Champions League, displayed a much more assertive performance throughout the game. Their efforts paid off in the 92nd minute when substitute Toure managed to score against Juventus' replacement goalkeeper, Mattia Perin. Despite the loss, Perin was recognized as the player of the match.
Stuttgart missed a crucial opportunity to go ahead just four minutes before the end of the match. After a VAR review confirmed a foul by Danilo on Anthony Rouault, Enzo Millot took a penalty, but Perin made the save. This incident also resulted in Danilo receiving his second yellow card.
The spectators witnessed Deniz Undav's goal being ruled out for handball by the German forward early in the second half. However, the team was able to break their streak of four matches without a victory across all competitions. Juventus remains at six points, while Stuttgart has four.
This marked the first loss for Juventus since Thiago Motta took over as coach.
"Stuttgart definitely earned the win; they played much better than we did right from the start. We need to process this loss quickly and then regroup to get ready for our upcoming match against Inter," Motta said to Sky Sport Italia.
"We weren't able to disrupt their control of the match... They're a team that causes you problems when they're in charge of the game. They have skilled players, and they're well-organized and structured."
"They're a challenging team to compete against, and we struggled today. I want to emphasize that they rightfully earned the victory."
