Ricky Gervais pulled a prank on Justin Timberlake regarding his detention for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The funny person and famous actor from The Office, Extras, and After Life, usually known for mocking famous celebrities when hosting the Golden Globes, targeted the vocalist after his detention on Tuesday (18 June), presumably, without having to pay bail.

The musician known for his hit song "Cry Me a River", rose to fame as a renowned solo pop artist in the 2000s after departing from the boyband NSYNC in the 90s. According to reports, he stated that he only had a single martini when he was stopped by the police due to driving recklessly on the roads of Hamptons.

As stated in a report acquired by the New York Post, Timberlake, who starred in The Social Network in 2010, did not do well on all the regular field sobriety tests and kept refusing to undergo a breathalyser.

After a few hours, Gervais mentioned Timberlake's X/Twitter username in a message and asked, "Have you received the bottle of Dutch Barn Vodka that I sent to you recently?"

The blog caused a split among its readers, with some referring to it as “the top blog” they read that day while others thought it was inconsiderate to make jokes regarding the topic so soon.

It's uncertain if Timberlake's recent arrest will have any impact on his upcoming world tour, which is scheduled to take place in Chicago on the 21st of June. The singer of "Señorita" has been accused of driving while intoxicated and breaking two traffic rules - failing to stop at a stop sign and failing to stay in the correct lane.

He has a court appearance scheduled for July 26.

Timberlake's image was negatively affected following the publishing of Britney Spears' autobiography, The Woman in Me, in 2023. The memoir exposed various aspects of their relationship and eventual breakup. Spears alleged that Timberlake was unfaithful to her on multiple occasions and ended things with her via a brief text message consisting of only two words.

Despite everything, Timberlake came forward in June 2021 to pledge his support for Spears as she fought her conservatorship case in court. He expressed his belief that every woman should have the freedom to choose what happens to her own body, and expressed hope that both the legal system and Spears' family would do whatever is necessary to ensure that she can live her life on her own terms.

Last year, Timberlake offered a public apology to his wife, Jessica Biel, following a scandalous image of him holding hands with his Palmer co-star, Alisha Wainwright, in New Orleans.

"I try to avoid participating in rumors and hearsays as much as possible, but for the sake of my loved ones, I find it necessary to clarify some speculations that have caused them distress," Timberlake posted on his social media. "Though I was not wise in my actions a few weeks ago, let me clarify that there was no romantic involvement between me and my co-worker."

He went on to say: "On that particular evening, I consumed an excessive amount of alcohol and I am remorseful for my actions. I should have acted more responsibly, as it goes against my desire to be a positive role model for my child."

I am deeply sorry to my incredible spouse and kin for subjecting them to a humiliating ordeal, and my priority now is to strive towards becoming an outstanding spouse and parent. That was not my intention.
