Jurgen Klopp will not enter England running after Gareth Southgate exit

Ex-Liverpool coach is sticking to his decision to take a whole year off before thinking about going back to work.

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has no plans to make a return to coaching at the highest level for at least another year, meaning he will not be able to step in for Gareth Southgate in time for the beginning of the World Cup qualifiers.

Klopp made it known after departing Anfield that he planned to take a break for at least a year and would not be signing with any team or national organization during that period.

Even though many people have been calling for him to be considered as a top choice to take over for Southgate after he stepped down as England coach, information from Telegraph Sport indicates that Klopp's stance remains the same and he has no intention of changing his mind.

Klopp won't be ready to start managing again until July 2025. This means that the Football Association will have to start their World Cup qualification with a temporary manager before considering hiring Klopp for the 2026 tournament.

There is no certainty that Klopp would accept the job at that time, even though his main concern right now is his break from work. It is just speculation if England would consider reaching out to him.

Mark Bullingham, the head of the Football Association, said: "We are currently working on selecting someone to take over from Gareth as soon as possible. Our Uefa Nations League matches begin in September, and we have a temporary plan in place if necessary."

Klopp was contacted by the United States about taking over from Gregg Berhalter, but he did not engage in any official talks with the 2026 World Cup hosts.

When he revealed he was leaving Liverpool in January, he explained that he was feeling drained and needed a break. He had known for a while that he would have to step down at some point, but he now felt at peace with his decision. He acknowledged that he couldn't continue to perform at the same level repeatedly.

"Over the years we've spent together, going through so much and creating strong bonds, my admiration and love for you have only grown. It's only fair that I speak the truth, which is that my feelings for you have only deepened."
