Ronnie O'Sullivan fights back to clinch World Grand Prix title with 10-7 victory over Judd Trump
Ronnie O'Sullivan managed to recover from being behind by four points and ended up winning 10-7 against Judd Trump in the World Grand Prix final. This victory marks his incredible streak of 14 consecutive match wins and three titles in a row.
During an impressive run that started in November, O'Sullivan has won titles at the UK Championship, the Masters, and most recently, the tournament in Leicester.
In September, he won the Shanghai Masters title and astonishingly, at 48 years old, he might be approaching the most outstanding season of his profession. He now has won a total of 41 ranking titles, which is significantly higher than Stephen Hendry's 36 on the all-time record. Additionally, he has earned approximately £900,000 from prizes this season.
This match didn't meet expectations since it featured the two top players of the season playing against each other. However, the quality of play wasn't up to par as the highest scoring sequence was only 74. O'Sullivan only managed to win one frame in a single try, which is quite different from his magnificent performance in the semi-finals where he defeated Ding Junhui 6-1.

Despite starting strongly, Trump was unable to take advantage of his early lead due to mistakes made during crucial moments. This caused him to lose seven out of the last eight frames, ultimately resulting in the loss of his 6-3 lead.
During previous times in his profession, O'Sullivan may not have had the ability to come back and win a game without being at the top of his performance, but nowadays his psychological strength is a tremendous advantage. Just like how he did it in the Masters final last week when he competed against Ali Carter, he gained more strength as the night went on.
For the third time, The Rocket has emerged victorious and clinched the World Grand Prix title. Previously, he had won the championship in 2018 and 2021. With this win, he has further cemented his top spot in the world rankings. The Rocket has also won his last three finals against Trump, a significant feat considering he had lost seven of their first ten.
"I really liked it," O'Sullivan expressed. "At the beginning of the week, I wasn't feeling too good but then I decided to invest in an air fryer and a smoothie maker and began improving my diet."
I'm not a fan of consuming unhealthy food, it affects me negatively. However, as the week progressed, I began to feel much improved. Last night, I played exceptionally well in a snooker match against Ding, bolstering my confidence for today's match against Judd. I knew I had to at least perform well in some aspect."
He defeated me decisively with a 4-0 score during our game at the table. At that point, I assumed it would be a quick match and I would lose by a significant margin, possibly 10-1! However, I was able to win a few frames in the afternoon and bring up the score to 5-3, which gave me a sense of hope. I approached the rest of the game with the thought of simply trying my best.
I really liked the match. Judd is such a fierce competitor that facing him is always a challenge. In my opinion, he's got the best chance of winning the World Championship this year. He's simply unstoppable.
Whenever I engage in a game of snooker, a sense of youthfulness overcomes me. It's almost like I'm shedding off two decades of age whenever I am playing. Provided that I am still feeling lively and energetic during the game, I do not believe that age is a significant concern. In fact, my vast experience in the sport is serving me well and contributing to my success.
I have triumphed in numerous competitions, traveled to various countries, and acquired ample knowledge about the sport. I reckon I am presently a more well-rounded player than ever before.
Trump, who is from Bristol and is 34 years of age, earned £40,000 for coming in second place. However, he didn't manage to clinch his 27th career ranking title and his fourth one of the season. He had previously won three consecutive titles during his impressive run in October, where he won 22 matches in a row.
After the initial round, Trump was leading by 5-3. When the evening session started, he continued to dominate by scoring 66 points in the first frame. O'Sullivan attempted a challenging pot on the last brown, but unfortunately missed it. Trump took advantage of it and went on to win the game.
O'Sullivan made a triumphant return after scoring 58, 56, and 75, making the score 6-5. During the 12th frame, Trump was leading with a score of 57-30 when he carelessly played a weak safety on the last red ball. This provided O'Sullivan with an opportunity to hit a mid-range shot and level the score.
When the match came back from a break, O'Sullivan managed to take the lead for the first time with a 52-point run. During the 14th frame, he was ahead 51-0 until he didn't hit a red ball into the top corner. Trump was on the verge of clearing the table until he left a difficult shot on the last black ball, which was hanging on the edge of the pocket. This mistake gave O'Sullivan the opportunity to move ahead 8-6.
In the 15th game, Trump had an opportunity to get out of trouble. He made an impressive shot to pocket the last red ball. However, he struggled to cut the brown ball into a difficult angle and unfortunately missed. The brown ball remained on the surface of the pool table, causing Trump to fall behind by three points with only four rounds left to play.
After losing six consecutive matches, Trump was able to win one with a score of 73-9. During the 17th match, O'Sullivan scored 52 points but unfortunately missed a critical shot for a red in the corner, which could have led him to victory.
Trump possibly missed an opportunity on the yellow ball, made a mistake on a safety shot, and ended up leaving the ball too close to the baulk pocket. The entire crowd at Morningside Arena cheered and clapped for O'Sullivan when he successfully potted the colors to win the championship.
