Judd Trump dumped out of World Snooker Championship as Jak Jones reaches Crucible semi-finals
Judd Trump has been eliminated from the World Snooker Championship as Jak Jones created a huge upset by advancing to the semi-finals.
Jones from Wales, who occupies the 44th place in the world ranking, has advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament. He will face either Ronnie O'Sullivan, who has won the championship seven times before, or Stuart Bingham, winner of the 2015 edition. Jones secured his spot in the semi-finals after defeating Trump with a score of 13-9. The match was marred by many errors made by Trump, and his highest score in the final session on Wednesday was only 22.
Trump has been victorious in five significant events this season and has also made it to two final rounds. However, when the game restarted at 8-8, the second-ranked player in the world seemed to be in a poor condition. As a result, Jones managed to make it to his very first ranking semi-final, and he sealed the triumph of his career by making a break of 106. This was an outstanding accomplishment for him.

Trump, who won in 2019, made some errors that allowed Jones to take a two-frame lead of 11-9. The first two frames were split between the players, but then Jones scored two consecutive breaks of more than fifty points.
Trump, who was ranked third, surprisingly failed to pot two easy yellow balls during the 21st frame, causing him to lose. Jones took advantage of this opportunity and only needed one more frame to claim the victory. However, Trump's bad luck continued when he accidentally hit the cue ball into a pocket during the next frame, and Jones sealed the deal with an impressive century break.
Jones needs to win two more matches to become the World Championship title holder as a qualifier. Only two qualifiers before him have achieved this feat, Terry Griffiths in 1979 and Shaun Murphy in 2005.

Last year, Jones made it to the quarter-finals in Sheffield for the first time and even though he lost against Mark Allen, it seemed like the famous location made him perform better. Jones is 30 years old.
He has made it to the quarter-finals in just one other competition besides the World Championship, which was the English Open in the 2020/21 season. He managed to get past the second round only once in other competitions throughout this season, during the Welsh Open.
Jones emerged victorious over Zhang Anda, ranked 11th, and Si Jiahui, who was a semi-finalist in 2023, qualifying for the last eight at The Crucible. Meanwhile, Trump had triumphed over Hossein Vafaei and Tom Ford before failing to win his second world title, postponing his hopes for another year.
