Josh Allen's most recent kneel-down wasn't related to the game of football at all.
On Friday, the quarterback of the Buffalo Bills and actress Hailee Steinfeld shared a photo with their Instagram followers—20.3 million for Steinfeld and just 1.3 million for Allen. The image captures Allen kneeling to propose, set against a picturesque backdrop of a grassy ridge and water. They are surrounded by candles and an elaborate floral arch.
The NFL shared the photo on X to celebrate the couple's engagement, concluding their message with a ring and heart emoji.
The location probably took place along the California coast, where Allen spends his off-season. The proposal probably happened sometime last week during the Bills' break from games.
Allen kept the engagement a secret during his weekly press briefing on Wednesday as the AFC East-leading Bills (9-2) get ready to face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night. However, he did light up with a big smile when someone asked him about how he spent his bye week.
"It was wonderful. I had an amazing time. Enjoyed some sunshine and spent quality time with my family. Truly, it was fantastic," he remarked.
Allen and Steinfeld were initially spotted together in the spring of 2023 while having dinner in New York City. A few months later, Allen confirmed that they were in a relationship but requested that The Associated Press refrain from mentioning Steinfeld's name to help preserve their privacy.
Since then, Steinfeld has started going to Bills home games, and the couple threw a Halloween party this autumn.
At 27 years old, Steinfeld hails from Los Angeles and kicked off her acting journey when she was just 10. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Mattie Ross in the Coen brothers' 2010 version of "True Grit." In addition, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the 2016 coming-of-age dramedy "The Edge of Seventeen." Her other notable works include "Bumblebee," "Dickinson," and Marvel's "Hawkeye," as well as voice parts in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and its sequel.
After her appearance in "Pitch Perfect 2" in 2015, Steinfeld ventured into the world of pop music. Since then, she has put out several singles and two extended plays, one of which is titled "Half Written Story," released in 2020.
At 28 years old, Allen has established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Since being picked in the first round of the 2018 draft from Wyoming, he has broken numerous single-season and career passing and scoring records for Buffalo.
