The lawyers representing both sides have finished presenting their arguments in the criminal trial of actor Jonathan Majors in Manhattan. Majors stands accused of assaulting and behaving in a harassing manner towards his former partner, Grace Jabari.

According to the prosecutors, Majors assaulted Jabbari while they were in a car in Manhattan in March. NYPD officers were called to the scene and found Jabbari with injuries, including cuts, bruises, and a broken finger. It was discovered that the argument between the two was sparked by Jabbari seeing a message Majors received from another woman. As a result, Majors was taken into custody.

Majors has been accused of committing several crimes. They are assault with intent to cause physical harm in the third degree, assault causing physical harm recklessly in the third degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree and harassment in the second degree.

Throughout the trial, the jury was presented with evidence from the prosecutors which revealed that prior to the March incident, Majors had made several suicidal threats via text message in September 2022, along with acknowledging that he was a monstrous and unloving individual. The conversation between Majors and Jabbari also referenced a previous circumstance in which Jabbari had sustained head injuries.

During the trial, the jury was presented with an audio recording of Majors and Jabbari having a disagreement in the same month. In the recording, Majors urged Jabbari to emulate the behaviors of prominent women like Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama if she wanted their relationship to continue. Majors boasted about his own significance and claimed that his actions were making a positive impact on both his community and the world at large. He also demanded that Jabbari make some personal sacrifices for their relationship.

Galloway emphasized during the end of the trial that it was not a typical dispute of opposing statements. Instead, he considered it to be a case of she said-plus, taking into account all the evidence that was submitted throughout the proceedings.

While at the trial, Priya Chaudhry, the defense lawyer, stated that Jabbari was seeking revenge against Majors after their relationship ended. Chaudhry pointed out that Jabbari had gone out to a club after finding out about Majors' infidelity, which led to the alleged altercation between the two. Chaudhry believes that Jabbari was charging champagne to the man she was angry with, stating that she was partying as an act of revenge.

In the end, prosecutor Kelli Galaway stated that Jabbari had been attempting to shield Majors from any consequences that may arise in a legal or professional capacity. As a result, she refrained from contacting law enforcement or seeking medical assistance when he supposedly engaged in abusive behavior towards her. Throughout their romantic involvement, Jabbari believed it was her obligation to look after Majors' health and safety.

Prior to facing charges, Majors was a highly promising Hollywood actor. Recently, he had starred in Creed III and had secured a leading role as Kang the Conqueror in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film. To further develop his portfolio, Majors had also featured in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Season Two of the Disney+ series Loki earlier this year.

If found guilty, Majors could potentially be imprisoned for a maximum of one year. During the closing statements in court on Thursday, Majors appeared very solemn, wearing a dark suit and keeping mostly silent as Galaway delivered the speech. His head remained low throughout.
