Stapleton is well-known to television viewers thanks to his appearances on shows like Newsnight, Panorama, and GMTV's News Hour.

During an interview on BBC One's Morning Live, he remarked, "For nearly 50 years, communicating has been my source of income."

It can be really annoying at times, especially when people keep asking, "Excuse me, what did you just say?"

"And you find yourself saying the same things over and over."

I approach the possibility of things getting worse with a realistic mindset. I make an effort to stay optimistic; after all, there's no benefit in being negative, is there?

Nick, Stapleton's son, mentioned that the diagnosis was "quite distressing," but it wasn't unexpected since his grandmother had suffered from the same degenerative disease.

Parkinson's disease is a disorder that involves gradual damage to certain areas of the brain over many years. It is characterized by symptoms such as shaking and reduced movement, as noted on the NHS website.

Stapleton mentioned that he observed his mother's transformation from a vibrant, spirited, and sociable woman to someone who is quite delicate.

He mentioned that one of the challenges she encountered at first was her struggle with basic tasks, such as opening a can of beans or peeling a potato.

"Believe it or not, I'm currently facing a similar issue to some degree."

In the television program, Nick Stapleton had a conversation with his dad about what lies ahead and how he could provide the best assistance.

Stapleton expressed to his son, "I wish to stay as self-sufficient as possible for as long as I can."

When it comes to the house, I really wouldn't want to part with it, and I’m sure that doesn't come as a shock to you.

The speaker informed his son that he would consider using a stairlift if it became essential. He mentioned that while he would prefer not to move into a care facility, he was also pragmatic about the situation.

After Stapleton made his announcement, the charity Parkinson's UK reached out to offer their assistance to the journalist and his son as they embark on John's special journey dealing with the condition.

"No one faces Parkinson's disease in isolation; we are committed to offering support to everyone," the charity emphasized.
